Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield
Politics and International Relations is an ambitious and dynamic workgroup in the School of Life and Medical Sciences, ranked 1st in the UK for student satisfaction (Complete University Guide, 2024) for politics in the UK. We have a strong focus on applied and research-informed teaching, excellent pastoral care and graduate employability. We offer a BA degree in Politics and International Relations, and MA programmes include International Relations and International Relations (Advanced Research). Applications are invited for the post of Lecturer in Politics and International Relations. The post is based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, situated in a leafy campus within commuting distance from London.
Main duties and responsibilities
The post-holder will contribute to teaching, assessment and supervision in Politics and International Relations, specifically in the area of Conflict, Peace and Security, and Environmental Politics at Postgraduate and Undergraduate level. You will be accessible and supportive of students in the role of personal tutor, and will also assist in the administration, admissions and marketing of degree programmes. They will be expected to contribute to, strengthen and develop the research and enterprise activities within the area of Politics and International Relations and related areas.
Skills and experience required
The post-holder will have demonstrated teaching excellence in Politics and International Relations (ideally in the area of Conflict, Peace and Security, and Environmental Politics) at HEI level with positive feedback gained, including experience of assessment, project supervision and teaching and academic administration. You will have excellent knowledge of core areas of teaching and training in Politics and International Relations and related areas at HEI level.
Ideally you will have a track record of academic publication in Politics and International Relations research, commensurate with your career stage. You will demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills consistent with the highest quality of teaching and learning, along with evidence of successful teamwork and a caring and collegial approach. Proficiency in English is essential.
Qualifications required
The post-holder will have completed, or near-completion of a PhD in a relevant field, or have equivalent demonstrable practitioner experience. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy is desirable. If the post-holder is not a FHEA, they will need to obtain this via the University of Hertfordshire's Continuing Professional Academic Development programme.
