The TUC is looking for a press officer to join one of the busiest press teams in the country. We support trade unions to grow and thrive, and we stand up for everyone who works for a living. Every day, we campaign for more and better jobs, and a more equal, more prosperous country.

This is a senior position in the TUC, with significant responsibility, and would suit someone who brings a wealth of experience of media relations.

You'll be joining a campaigns department that runs numerous high-profile campaigns every year, secures extensive media coverage and supports our General Secretary Paul Nowak to demand change for working people.

In this general election year, unions will be out there fighting for jobs and for a New Deal for Working People. Join us.

Responsibilities

Develop and deliver media plans across print, digital and broadcastAnswer queries, produce press releases, quotes and operational notes, and sellin TUC storiesWrite opinion pieces and blogs in the name of TUC senior staffWork closely with the TUC's social team to amplify the TUC's priorities on our social channelsBuild relationships with policy staff to develop campaign executions illustrating the TUC's prioritiesDevelop their professional understanding of the UK media and build relationships with journalistsEvaluate TUC media coverage, and use that to improve how we workEnsure the TUC General Secretary and other leading figures have a high and positive media profileAdvise and coach TUC spokespeople and produce spokesperson briefsSource, interview, write-up and brief case studies in support of campaignsParticipate in cross-departmental project teams to deliver campaignsPerform any other reasonable tasks as determined by the head of CCD Knowledge, skills and experienceYou'll be able to spot a news angle and respond within minutes to breaking eventsYou'll have great judgement and be able to take the initiativeYou'll share our trade union and antiracist values We welcome applications from any candidate but are particularly keen to receive applications from Black, Asian and ethnically diverse candidates, who are underrepresented at this grade in the TUC.
