The National Lottery Promotions Unit (NLPU) is a small team responsible for promoting positive public awareness of National Lottery funding and the good cause projects it supports.
We are looking for a Press Officer to deliver high-quality, proactive press on key creative campaigns and strengthening awareness of National Lottery Good Causes through media engagement and storytelling.
In 2023, the National Lottery will run a series of nation-wide campaigns, including The National Lottery Awards, one year to go until Paris 2024 and the annual Birthday campaign (29 this year).
- the everyday heroes - who, by buying tickets, are making the UK a better place to be day in, day out.
You will be supporting these campaigns through key communication plans and sell in, as well as managing smaller scale activities such as events work, setting up media days and social influencer and creative content creation throughout the year.
You will work with senior stakeholders across the National Lottery family, to ensure that our work is aligned and complementary throughout the year.
You will work with design, branding and PR agencies, celebrities, photographers, film makers, evaluation providers, research companies, content creators and other suppliers to deliver high quality work, within budget and set timescales.
You must have knowledge of a wide range of communications, digital and PR techniques and you'll have proven experience in a press role in a professional environment.

Full time 37 Hours per week
Location:
London - office based minimum two days
Interviews - 31st January and 1st February
Essential criteria
- A good understanding of the media landscape contacts with journalists across print, online and broadcast and evidence of gaining high quality media coverage throughout varying outlets including consumer titles and feature sections;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, experienced at drafting media briefings, key messages and press releases. Ability to proactively work a press release into content that works across a variety of different channels, e.g. a compelling feature or an engaging social media post;
- Be confident and happy on the phones the role requires great interpersonal skills, including influencing and negotiation;
- A strong ability to think creatively and independently we'd love for you to come up with and execute creative ideas for pieces of activity/campaigns during quieter periods
Desirable criteria
- Relevant experience of creatively using social media and online communications channels as part of a campaign/project;
- Strong networking skills and ability to build good working relationships both internally and externally);
- Be highly organised and able to manage a varied workload with multiple deadlines;
- Want to further a career in media and communications and be eager to learn and develop skills in an inspirational and friendly environment.
