Position Summary:
Architects, executes and documents reliable, fault tolerant operations of the UCS Server infrastructure with a particular focus on Windows Server environment. Provides strategic infrastructure support and documentation for Intel-based server systems. Implements and documents server hardware, operating system, and core network services standards.
Manage server technologies, report growth, coordinate and manage client/server disaster recovery activities. Provide Tier one through three support to Server Operations. Provide technical direction and guidance to staff.
Key Responsibilities:
● 80% - Focus on WMI implementation, standardization, and operations.
● 10% - Maintain documentation related to standards and plans.
● 10% - Troubleshoot and resolve WMI issues. C. Requirements: Must Have
● Demonstrable information systems experience in a level three support role.
● Experience with all of the following technologies are desired: VMWare ESX Server and VirtualCenter, Cisco UCS hardware design and configuration.
● Experience with Windows Server configuration and design in an ITIL environment.
● Experience with Active Directory in a production environment.
● Experience in a client/server production environment.
● Scripting experience (Powershell) or use of automation and templating tools (Chef and Terraform).
● Experience with ServiceNow or other platforms for change management.
● Education – Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration or related field or equivalent experience.
● Strong problem-solving skills and attention to details. Strong client interface and verbal and written communication skills. Administrative, prioritization, organizational, and customer service skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks.
● Experience and willingness to work as part of a global team in an always on environment.
Nice to Have:
● Experience managing storage platforms (NetApp and Isilon).
● Experience managing backup and data protection platforms (Commvault).
Metrics:
● Candidate should have strong communication skills and be able to clearly and ably articulate a technical vision to both technical and non-technical audiences.
● Standards and policies developed by candidate will be global in nature and will be referenced by engineers at all global Discovery offices.
Business Context: (Completed prior to posting open position for use with recruiting)
Key Challenges/ Major Business Issues As a global media company, Discovery engineers are called upon to evaluate and provide recommendations on the use of potentially bleeding-edge technologies. Candidate should be adept at fast-paced critical thinking and be able to see through to a solution when exposed to technologies he/she may not have direct experience with or training for.
(b) Risks and Opportunities Risks: Ability to manage and implement new systems that can be effectively supported by a relatively small operations staff. Focus should be on automated and repeatable procedures and systems. This of course must be done sometimes with very little advance notice due to the nimble nature of our business users who will be very demanding and not accept long timelines to implementation.
Opportunities: As an engineering team we are currently developing designs with a view of providing more agile solutions to keep pace with Discovery's continued growth. This includes the active development of automated, repeatable and ultimately auditable server configurations
