Cumbria Police, Fire and Crime Panel Independent Member

Carlisle, Cumbria, United Kingdom Westmorland and Furness Council Full time

The Cumbria Police, Fire and Crime Panel is recruiting an Independent Co-opted member to help scrutinise and support the work of the Cumbria Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner.

As an independent member of the Panel, you would play a key role in providing transparency and accountability for the public on the activities of the Commissioner. It is an important and challenging role which offers you the chance to review the key strategic actions and decisions taken by the Commissioner.

This will include scrutinising whether the Commissioner has achieved the objectives set out in their Police and Crime and Fire and Rescue Plan, and reviewing the Commissioner's annual report, whilst regularly contributing to reports and recommendations made by the Panel.

The Panel also plays an integral statutory role in reviewing the Commissioner's annual proposed precept, resolving non-criminal complaints about the conduct of the Commissioner, and reviewing the proposed appointment of senior staff (including the Chief Constable and Chief Fire Officer).

Independent members have full voting rights and are encouraged to get involved in all areas of the Panel's work.

The Panel meets at least four times a year at locations within Cumbria. Independent members receive a small allowance and are entitled to claim travel expenses.

The Cumbria Police, Fire and Crime Panel operates in partnership between Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council. Westmorland and Furness Council is the host authority and provides administrative and other support to the Panel and its members.
