The UCL Centre for Advanced Research Computing (ARC) is UCL's new institute for infrastructure and innovation in digital research - the supercomputers, datasets, software and people that make computational science and digital scholarship possible.

We are an innovative hybrid: a professional services department that delivers reliable and secure infrastructure and services to UCL research groups, and a laboratory for research and innovation in the application of advanced computational and data intensive research methods, working in partnership with academics from all fields.

We are a home for the research technology professionals - research software engineers, HPC systems engineers, dev-ops specialists, data engineers, data scientists and data stewards - who support and collaborate in the delivery of UCL research, providing outstanding career development opportunities for these new kinds of research professionals.

About the role

A Senior Research Infrastructure Developer will be responsible for designing, building and maintaining the computational software and infrastructure that drives UCL's research.

They will build both persistent services with large numbers of users, and also bespoke solutions for specific research groups.

About you

A Senior Research Infrastructure Developer will be interested in building research platforms including hardware, OS installation, system administration, networks and storage. You will be a strong advocate for "building it right", and working to provide highly resilient systems and services. As part of this role there is an opportunity for growth - to obtain advancement by steering the focus to include training, line management, research or further specialisation in HPC/Storage technologies.

This role will involve working in data centres, and often require onsite/in person work in and around London.

Experience of infrastructure, data centres, research storage, Linux System administration and HPC are highly desirable.

As part of this recruitment we are looking to appoint a Senior Research Infrastructure Developer with specialisations in two or more of the following technologies: Storage Scale (GPFS), Storage Protect (TSM), Lustre, HPC/AI systems, Data centres or hardware management.
