Team: 5 shifts of 4 Operators and 1 Supervisor
Holidays: 48 hours holiday, remaining holidays planned into work schedule – entitlement increasing each year for the first 5 years

Established in 1966, Eastham Refinery Limited is the UK’s only bitumen refinery, located in the North West, as part of a 50/50 joint venture between Shell and Nynas. Job Summary:
We are seeking 3 dedicated and motivated Process Operators to join our dynamic teams. The Process Operator will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the refinery’s operations, ensuring the safe and efficient processing of raw materials into high-quality products. This role is critical in maintaining operational standards and optimizing production processes.
The successful candidate will start as a No. 3 Operator whilst training fully for the role, this can take a year or more but is entirely dependent on the individuals drive and ability. During training the operator will complete 3 assessments, with each successful assessment completed they will receive a pay increase, currently of £2,470.00. When the 3rd assessment is successfully completed the individual will also become a No. 2 Operator.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor refinery equipment and processes.
- Conduct routine inspections of equipment and systems to ensure proper functioning and adherence to safety regulations.
- Adjust controls and set points based on real-time data to optimize productions and minimise downtime.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate repairs, including preparation of areas for work.
- Maintain accurate records of operations including production data, equipment status, and safety checks.
- Complete sample collections and tank dips as required.
- Ensuring the smooth operation of shipping requirements for feedstock and product.
- Participate in safety drills and training, promoting a culture of safety and compliance within the team.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company policies regarding waste management and emissions control.
- Support the training and mentoring of new operators and team members.
- Assist in the development and implementation of operations procedures and best practice.
Must have:
- 5 GCSE’s at C/4 or above, including Math, English and Science
- Previous experience in a process operation role, preferably in chemical or oil manufacturing environment.
- Good understanding of process control systems and instrumentation.
- Ability to multitask and prioritise in changing conditions.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and environmental regulations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Candidates will be reviewed collectively and successful applicants will be invited to interview, which will also include a simple maths test and tour of the site. The interview usually takes 2.5 hours.
