About Us:
Walker Sime is a well-respected construction consultancy providing expert commercial support to major infrastructure projects across the UK. We are currently seeking experienced Commercial Managers to join our team and provide commercial leadership on critical water sector projects within the AMP7 framework.
Role Overview:
As a Project Commercial Manager, you will play a pivotal role in managing subcontractors and providing commercial advice to a multidisciplinary team of engineers and project managers. This is a hands-on position where your expertise in contract management and procurement will be crucial to the successful delivery of our projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Subcontractor Management - Oversee and manage subcontractors, focusing exclusively on downstream activities. This role does not involve upstream client management.
- Team Leadership - Lead and mentor a team of 4-10 Senior Quantity Surveyors (SQS) and Quantity Surveyors (QS), providing guidance and commercial insight.
- Commercial Advisory - Offer commercial advice and support to the wider project team, ensuring best practices are followed.
- Contract Management - Manage NEC3 subcontracts (all options), ensuring strict adherence to contractual obligations.
- Procurement - Handle the procurement process for subcontractors, including drafting contracts based on existing proformas.
- Contract Administration - Conduct all contract administration manually, including managing communications via email and trackers. Familiarity with existing proformas for Applications for Payment (AfP), Compensation Events (CE), and Early Warning Notices (EWN) is essential.
- Site Visits - Conduct site visits approximately once a month, covering locations from North Lincolnshire to Milton Keynes.
About You:
- Main Contractor Experience - Proven experience working for a main contractor, with a strong background in managing subcontractors.
- Technical and Managerial Expertise - Strong technical skills combined with experience in leading and managing commercial teams.
- Contract Management - Extensive experience with NEC3 contracts is essential.
- Water Sector Experience - Experience in the water sector is preferred but not mandatory.
- Location Flexibility - Must be willing to work 3 days per week in our Peterborough office, with the flexibility to work remotely for 2 days and travel for site visits as needed.
