About Project Waterfall

Project Waterfall is a leading charity in the coffee industry, investing in projects to bring clean drinking water, sanitation and education to coffee growing communities worldwide. The charity was established by the Allegra Foundation in 2011 and works within the coffee industry to raise awareness of the challenges faced by coffee growing communities and develop impactful projects that improve community resilience and prosperity.


The Role

With the support and guidance of the Board of Trustees, the Director of Project Waterfall will set and execute the vision and strategy of the charity, establishing and nurturing relationships with key stakeholders within the coffee industry and beyond. The director of Project Waterfall will be responsible for securing funding, leading strategic initiatives, managing partnerships, and overseeing fundraising campaigns to grow the charity's impact and reputation globally. This role requires a proactive leader with experience in fundraising, non-profit management, partnership building, and campaign development.


Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership
  • Develop and execute Project Waterfall’s long-term vision, goals, and strategies.
  • Identify and pursue growth opportunities within the coffee industry both in the UK and internationally.
  • Secure and develop the necessary funding to grow the charity.


  • Fundraising and Campaign Management
  • Lead the planning and execution of key fundraising events and initiatives, including UK Coffee Week and World Water Day.
  • Drive the growth of corporate partnerships, increasing revenue from top-tier partners and expanding the charity’s support base.


  • Partnership and Stakeholder Management
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with industry leaders, delivery partners, board members, and new supporters.
  • Act as the primary spokesperson for Project Waterfall, representing the charity at trade shows, industry events, and media appearances.


  • Operational and Team Management
  • Manage a small team of permanent staff, freelancers, interns, and volunteers, fostering a collaborative, results-driven environment.
  • Oversee the charity's financial health, ensuring all projects are delivered within budget and on time.
  • Project Oversight
  • Ensure the successful execution of WASH projects by delivery partners, maintaining a focus on quality and measurable impact.
  • Monitor project outcomes to meet set targets, providing regular updates to stakeholders and partners.


Candidate Profile

You Are:

  • A visionary leader with a deep commitment to social and environmental causes, particularly water and sanitation access for underserved communities.
  • A seasoned nonprofit manager with a track record in campaign execution, strategic planning, and managing high-impact projects.
  • Adept at relationship building and highly skilled in partnership management within CSR, sustainability, or charity sectors.
  • A people-focused leader who thrives in team management, excels in cross-functional collaboration, and is comfortable handling operational responsibilities.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit leadership or a similar role, ideally with exposure to the coffee industry, CSR, or sustainability sectors.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large-scale fundraising campaigns, expanding revenue streams, and securing top-tier partnerships.
  • Strong project management skills, including experience overseeing international development projects and partnerships.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in digital tools for campaign management, CRM systems, and marketing.

Desirable

  • Experience in the coffee industry or familiarity with coffee culture and related CSR efforts.
  • Language skills (e.g., French, Spanish) are an advantage for engaging with global stakeholders.
