My client is seeking a Principal Data Engineer to join their dynamic team. As a Principal Data Engineer, you'll work in multidisciplinary teams to create, support, and maintain user-focused digital solutions that deliver real value to everyone.


About the Role

Our Principal Data Engineers are leaders in their field. In this role, you'll serve as a principal consultant, offering technical expertise in data engineering to both our internal team and clients. You'll guide the technical deliverables of the team, nurture client relationships, and be passionate about developing and mentoring others.


Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert within the engineering community to develop user-centered software based on business requirements and best practices.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and deliver solutions to client challenges.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot client relationships through effective collaboration.
  • Design and manage software development and deployment pipelines, proactively resolving issues and bottlenecks.
  • Continuously review and prioritize the delivery team's workload, anticipating the need for realignment with evolving operational priorities and complex work-streams.
  • Communicate and present prototypes, solutions, and progress to internal and external stakeholders clearly and concisely.
  • Build strong relationships with your team and stakeholders, identifying and overcoming challenges.
  • Lead the recruitment of engineers and support other consultants in their professional development.
  • Ensure the Data and Engineering communities contribute strategically to the business.
  • Lead new business opportunities, writing technical bids and proposals.
  • Promote the Data community externally through blogs, workshops, seminars, and conferences.


Skills and Experience

  • Extensive experience in Python and at least one other core programming language.
  • Excellent knowledge of SQL and relational databases; NoSQL databases are also desirable.
  • Strong experience with at least one cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Proficiency with various data formats such as CSV, JSON, and XML.
  • Expertise in building reliable data pipelines.
  • Broad IT knowledge, including security and networking.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Familiarity with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and/or Behavior-Driven Development (BDD).
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD).
  • Proven experience as a technical leader on complex projects, with the ability to manage stakeholder expectations and influence decisions.
  • Ability to coach and guide others towards optimal solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to articulate technical and non-technical information based on the audience.
  • Experience in technical leadership and mentoring.
  • Ability to define working procedures and methodologies for the team.
