🔎 About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Team Leader to join our dynamic Data team. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing an efficient data stack, understanding good database architecture practices, and delivering Power BI reports that support business users in their decision-making process. This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, strategic thinking, and hands-on execution to build and maintain a robust data ecosystem.


💼 Experience requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience working with a data stack, managing database architecture, and building efficient data pipelines from data collection to report delivery.
  • 18+ months of experience in creating Power BI data models, writing complex measures using DAX, and designing Power BI visuals that tell a compelling story.
  • Experience with large PowerBi data models (5GB+, 100+ tables), and tables that have hundreds of millions of rows.
  • What would be an advantage: Experience with Python, Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Google Tag Manager (GTM); Experience in delivering reports using GA4 or/and Facebook Ads data.


💻 Technical skills requirements:

  • Hands on experience with MySQL, BigQuery and PowerBi, TabularEditor, DaxStudio, AlmToolkit, SSMS
  • Experience in ETL processes for data collection and transformation
  • Solid foundation in concepts like Star/snowflake schema, Data storytelling and visual hierarchy.
  • Key concepts you need to have a solid foundation in PowerBi:

-> Incremental refresh, query folding and partitioning

-> Expanded tables, data lineage, filter and row context, using CALCULATE

-> Field parameters, calculation groups, stacking of calculation groups

-> Import vs DirectQuery and efficient storage of data using the Vertipaq Engine

-> Storage Engine vs Formula Engine

🚀 What Will You Be Doing:

  • Data Strategy Development & Management: Create and manage the overall data strategy, ensuring alignment with business goals and driving data-driven decision-making across departments.
  • Data Architecture & Model Development: Design new data models or enhance existing ones in Power BI, as well as improve the overall data stack and database architecture to ensure scalability and efficiency.
  • Data Integration: Integrate new data sources and datasets into the existing data stack to enhance reporting and analytics capabilities.
  • Report Creation: Develop Power BI measures and reports for business users or improve the quality and delivery of current reports.
  • WBR Implementation: Lead the implementation of the Weekly Business Review (WBR) system, ensuring consistent data reporting, KPI tracking, and actionable insights for performance monitoring.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Manage and prioritise data requests from other departments, ensuring timely delivery of data insights and solutions that support their objectives.
  • Management Reporting: Provide regular updates to upper management on data objectives, roadmaps, and progress toward goals, including key findings from data analysis and recommendations for optimization.
  • Team Leadership: Oversee a small team consisting of a Python & MySQL Developer and a Power BI Developer, with the potential for team growth in the future. Support team development and ensure the successful execution of data projects.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Manage the data team’s budget and resources, ensuring optimal allocation for projects and aligning with broader business priorities to maximise efficiency and output.
