We are seeking a Senior Electronic Design Engineer to join the team at our HQ on the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Sheffield.


Role purpose

To take a leading role in the ongoing design & development of electronic products, with a particular focus on liquid-cooled electronics.


Summary

Be responsible for designing and implementing electronic systems and components that meet customer requirements in terms of reliability, functionality, testability & cost. Play a key role in the full design lifecycle from initial concept to prototype & production stages. This also includes such tasks as building/reworking/troubleshooting electronics to support prototyping & production, and testing designs to check that they are compliant & fit for purpose. Be a role model & driving force within the department, taking a technical lead and in some cases delegating & supporting other junior team members.


Responsibilities

Primary (Key) Responsibilities & Deliverables

  • Produce electronics designs to meet requirements; Schematics & layout.
  • Verify designs meet requirements using Calculation & Simulation
  • Building, testing, and troubleshooting prototype or production electronics.
  • Liaise with Software development to ensure smooth integration of HW & SW
  • Identify and report potential issues related to design of electronics & electronic performance using reporting tools.
  • Identify & document test cases for New Product Development (design validation testing)
  • Carry out design validation testing on NPD’s.
  • Support the definition of project scope & requirements.
  • Produce product architectures to support cross functional development.
  • Create & manage project plans within the electronics scope.
  • Support ongoing development & improvement of processes.
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities within the dept. and implement them.


Secondary Responsibilities

  • Liaise with cross functional teams during NPD; Mechanics, SW, Thermofluids, Quality
  • Promote and maintain awareness of the correct handling of electronics
  • Produce and maintain Electronics and ESD standards within Iceotope
  • Set a good example to junior members of the team


Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential:

  • Degree in Electronic Engineering or other relevant subject.
  • Strong experience in circuit design, simulation, analysis and test with embedded processors, sensors and interfacing electronics
  • PCB layout experience
  • Familiarity with Altium Designer
  • Multiple journeys through complete development lifecycles
  • Design for EMC; analysing and rectifying compliance issues
  • Experienced in Design for manufacture.

Desirable:

  • Experience of process improvement
  • Calculation of component stress & de-rating and reliability estimation
  • Design, development and test of SMPS.
  • Thermal modelling and simulation
  • Knowledge of communications buses, ie. UART, SPI, I2C
  • Strong working knowledge of Electrical Safety Standards.
  • Experience of interfacing with high voltage power electronics
  • Using and applying DFMEA
  • Experience of Power Electronics
