The role of the Cloud Architect is to ensure that the critical cloud services delivered to our clients are designed and delivered to the highest quality standards, leveraging expertise, experience and best practices in solution design and delivery across the full project lifecycle.


Responsibilities:


  • Work independently or as part of a team to translate business needs into the design of cloud architectures for external clients, and internal delivery teams.
  • Lead the solution definition and delivery for a wide range of projects and programmes.
  • The design and communication of high-level artefacts to guide the design and development of integrated solutions that meet customer requirements.
  • Participates in and can lead meetings with stakeholders.
  • Provide advice, leadership and mentoring for technical teams, defining standards and practices for solution design and delivery.
  • Ensures adherence to applicable standards (corporate, industry, national and international).
  • Work as part of a team to develop the overall cloud architecture for a range of industry focused sales propositions.
  • Participate in business development providing technical input and meeting with clients to secure new business.
  • Act as pre-sales cloud architect for bids and proposals, assisting with estimation and planning.
  • Work as part of a team to design and support development of proof of concepts and deliver client demonstrations.
  • Support identification of training needs across internal delivery teams.
  • Identification of new and emerging software, technologies, products, services, methods and techniques and the assessment of their relevance and potential value for solutions, improvements in cost/performance or sustainability.
  • Promotion of emerging technology awareness among staff and business management.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across other disciplines to ensure consideration of architecture at all stages of the delivery lifecycle.
  • Participate in development of internal architecture capability.
  • Mentoring of junior staff as part of internal career growth.

Technologies, Methodologies and Frameworks:


  • Knowledge and experience of delivering complete cloud solutions based on the PaaS, SaaS, and IaaS capabilities of Amazon Web Services.
  • Experience in managing cloud engineering teams, including planning and tracking delivery of cloud solutions.
  • End-to-end experience of Secure Software Development Lifecycle processes and methodologies.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience of working with multi-discipline teams to deliver complex services.
  • Knowledge and experience of integration patterns and associated standards and technologies
  • Knowledge and experience of Agile development, tools, and methods
  • Knowledge and experience of applying best practice for solution security. E.g., OWASP, NCSC cloud security principles.
  • Knowledge and experience of applying best practice for handling personal data. E.g., GDPR.
  • Knowledge and experience of DevOps and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment tools and practices.


Skills & Qualifications


Industry recognised Technical Qualifications. E.g., Microsoft certifications, Amazon certifications and similar.

Technologies, Methodologies and Frameworks

Knowledge and experience of Web Application design and delivery.

Knowledge and experience of container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Knowledge and experience of Microservices, Webservices and associated technologies and frameworks including Rest, SOAP, JSON.

Knowledge and experience of Single Sign on and Authentication/Authorisation technologies such as SAML, OAuth, OpenID Connect, Active Directory, ADFS and LDAP

Knowledge and experience of development of solutions based on the PaaS, SaaS, and IaaS capabilities of Microsoft Azure.

Knowledge and experience of development of solutions based on the PaaS, SaaS, and IaaS capabilities of Google Cloud.

Knowledge and experience of development of, and integration with, mobile applications including iOS and Android.

Knowledge and experience of data architecture and associated patterns and technologies.

Knowledge and experience of delivering real time data integration e.g., streaming (IoT) and APIs.

Experience working with multi-disciplinary teams.

Experience working in the UK Central Government or Defence sectors.

Active DV clearance, or ability to successfully undertake clearance.
