We’re looking for an experienced SQL Server DBA with a background in the NHS to manage, optimise, and secure our databases, ensuring high availability and efficiency across essential healthcare applications.


Role Overview:

As a SQL Server DBA, you will be responsible for maintaining and tuning SQL Server databases to support NHS data systems. This includes monitoring performance, managing backups and ensuring data security compliance. You will work closely with IT and healthcare teams to optimize database performance and troubleshoot issues to keep our systems running smoothly.


Key Requirements:

  • Extensive experience as a SQL Server DBA, specifically within the NHS or healthcare sector, with a solid understanding of NHS data standards and compliance.
  • Expertise in database performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, and high-availability configurations (Always On, clustering, replication).
  • Strong knowledge of backup strategies and disaster recovery planning, with hands-on implementation experience.
  • Proven ability to audit internal systems for compliance, data integrity, and regulatory adherence, especially with NHS and healthcare-specific requirements.
  • Experience with data security standards and NHS compliance, including data privacy regulations (such as GDPR) relevant to healthcare.
  • Proficiency in SQL Server tools (SSMS, SQL Profiler, Database Tuning Advisor) and monitoring tools for maintaining database health and efficiency.
  • Familiarity with ETL processes, data migration, and integration with healthcare systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex database issues promptly.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with both healthcare and IT teams to meet the unique needs of NHS data systems.
