Based in Tring, Hertfordshire, MRK Associates is exclusively partnering with this exciting business who are looking for a qualified accountant to join them as Financial Controller on a permanent basis working hybrid 2-3 days in the office.


This job would suit an ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified accountant looking to play a key role as a critical member of the senior leadership team, challenging assumptions and taking a lead position in effectively planning the future direction of the business and driving business performance and growth.


The business is an award-winning niche player in the entertainment industry that has won significant high-profile contracts in its short time since inception. Due to recent and future predicted growth, the finance function has been reviewed to create a Head of Finance position with the aim of moving this role into a Finance Director role in the future.


The successful individual will be a qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified accountant who has a strong track record in a Financial Controller or similar role and can demonstrate both good technical finance disciplines as well as strong commercial awareness. An obvious desire to succeed and progress will be imperative in this individual as there is huge scope in this role to grow. Any experience of working in an asset heavy business or in a leasing-focused industry would be advantageous but not essential.


Duties will include:


  • Leading, motivating and developing the finance function with a focus on the following areas: Financial Reporting, Strategic Planning, Business Information, tax, treasury, compliance and risk
  • Support the CEO in areas of strategic planning, capital allocation, business cases, scenario planning and exit readiness
  • Alongside the commercial and project teams, develop pricing strategies for our products and services
  • Management Information - creating MI pack; presenting to the board; following up on resulting actions
  • Creating annual budget and tracking, including commentary on variances
  • Managing the end to end audit process
  • Setting up new leases by creating lease pack, including involvement in negotiation
  • Revenue recognition – recognising job and project revenue correctly
  • Cost of sales – recognising job related expenses and ensuring accurate representation
  • Reviewing gross profit margins
  • Managing the end to end process for all tax and VAT returns
