X4 Technology are offering the opportunity for Head of Software Engineering to come and work alongside a fast growing Energy & Commodity trading company and are currently undergoing multiple exciting project alongside a really exciting period of growth.


Responsibilities of the Head of Software Engineering:

  • Lead, mentor, and grow multiple teams of engineers across different time zones.
  • Build a strong engineering culture and ensure the team remains motivated, challenged, and aligned with company goals.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and set clear goals for individual and team growth.
  • Contribute to the development and upkeep of the platform.
  • Create new features and address issues within a decentralized, microservices architecture, focusing on data integration services, APIs for both end-users and IT systems, real-time data processing, and web applications.
  • Design, maintain, and enhance tools to ensure optimal visibility across the platform, including user interfaces, analytics, and reporting systems.
  • Design technical architectures that meet business requirements, overseeing system architecture and technology choices to ensure compliance with design specifications throughout development.
  • Build robust systems using contemporary software engineering practices, with a focus on automation to improve efficiency, quality, and productivity, including automated testing and continuous integration.


Requirements of the Head of Software Engineering:

  • Previous experience working with teams across large time zone gaps.
  • An understanding of the .Net ecosystem, with expertise in:
  • Event-driven architecture and data processing, utilizing frameworks like Azure Event Hubs or Apache Kafka.
  • Solid understanding of microservices-based systems, with experience in designing, deploying, and managing distributed services.
  • Background in investigating, troubleshooting, and developing API systems, including REST and gRPC, as well as familiarity with tools such as Postman.
  • Experience with both relational and document-based databases, strong SQL skills, and preferred familiarity with Cosmos DB.
  • Understanding of cloud PaaS and IaaS, preferably Microsoft Azure.
