Platform Resourcing are working with a Cardiff based client that are looking to recruit a Product Development Engineer. This is a permanent role that will have varied days and you will be working on a number of projects, giving you great exposure and development opportunities.
The role will involve working work closely with production, sales and customers, involving the design of tooling and fixtures, development of designs for manufacture, following the job from concept through to manufacture, helping production teams deliver on efficiencies and productivity, as well as ensuring customer design briefs are met, and are able to be produced to the highest quality standards. You will need experience of creating technical specifications/ drawings, using programmes such as Solidworks/ AutoCAD/ Revit etc.
Product Development Engineer Salary & Benefits
* Salary of up to £45,000 based on experience, negotiable for the right person
* 25 days holiday (plus 8 Bank Holidays) – 4 need to be saved for 2 week Christmas shutdown
* Monday to Friday Hours 8.30am to 5.30pm
* 8% Pension – 5% employer, 3% employee
* Free Parking
* Full-time, Permanent role
Product Development Engineer Duties and Responsibilities:
* To engineer solutions that meet the customer requirements.
* To develop coating application methods suitable for ongoing production following established NPI procedures.
* To develop associated machining and finishing operations in conjunction with sub-contractors or in-house machinists.
* To design fixtures and tooling with Solidworks package.
* To liaise with, and vet necessary suppliers as required.
* To prepare appropriate work instructions from customer supplied requirements and information.
* To provide appropriate technical support to sales and production.
* To manage application & improvement projects within budget & timescales.
* To provide accurate job costings and review manufacturing costs accordingly.
* To be customer facing, and in conjunction with sales, liaise on technical matters.
* To attend meetings and prepare reports for management review as requested.
* To contribute to continuous improvement activities including developing practices and procedures.
* To be commercially responsible at all times, minimising wastage and not exposing the company to unnecessary risk.
* To maintain a clean & safe environment, working within the Company’s quality, health, safety and environmental management systems at all times.
Product Development Engineer Essential Experience and Skills:
* Experience within a similar mechanical role - designing tooling/ machinery or plant equipment
* Knowledge of metallurgy/ metal processing/ welding and fabrication process/ materials science
* Strong mechanical design knowledge – Solidworks software/ CAD
* Able to produce technical drawings.
* IT literacy: familiarity with Microsoft software and Solidworks.
* To have a keen eye for detail and a results driven approach
* The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with your team, managers and clients;
* The ability to work under pressure and motivate others to meet tight deadlines;
Desirable Skills/ Experience
Previous experience working in environments with industrial robotics, CNC and CMM machines.
