We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Infrastructure Engineer with a strong focus on networking, storage, virtualization and cloud. You will play a critical role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of our networking infrastructure, virtualization platforms, and cloud environments. Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for compute, networking and storage in datacenters located in the UK. Delivering monitoring, security enhancements and automation to increase value to the business and reduce risk.

Your deep understanding of network protocols, security practices, virtualization technologies, and cloud platforms will be instrumental in ensuring the stability, security, and optimal performance of our IT environment and the services we offer to our customers.

You will be a member of the Infrastructure team and will provide system engineering expertise and perform a key DevOps role. Covering live production support, development support and project work.

What you will do:

  • Design, implement, and maintain the networking infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls and load balancers to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance.
  • Work closely with the Security and Governance team to secure the companies IT systems
  • Work closely with DevOps teams to integrate networking and cloud infrastructure components into continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Plan and execute network upgrades and migrations, ensuring minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
  • Monitor and analyze system performance, conduct capacity planning, and recommend enhancements to meet business requirements
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted parties.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including network diagrams, standard operating procedures, and configuration guides.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and security trends, and evaluate their potential impact on the organization.
  • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.

What you will have:

  • Expert level/Final point of escalation experience
  • Experience in managing IT projects, including planning, organizing, and implementing projects on time, on budget, and within scope
  • Strong knowledge of Virtualization Technologies (VMware)
  • In depth understanding of computer networking protocols and concepts including IP/TCP/UDP, NAT, DNS, NFS etc
  • In-depth understanding of network security principles, including VPNs, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access control mechanisms.
  • Experience of network monitoring and management tools
  • Strong knowledge of storage infrastructure, SAN, backup appliances and file management
  • Linux engineering skills to build, operate and manage a complex production environment. Familiarity with RedHat based Linux versions
  • Experience of Web Application servers architectures, security, protocols and technologies (Apache Web Server, HAProxy, Tomcat) configuration and optimization
  • Understanding of DR/BCP business processes
  • Comfortable liaising with business users as well as technical teams
  • Good verbal and written communication
  • Experience within the finance and/or motor finance industry is an advantage
