About the role:
Are you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder? As a Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant focusing on non-verbal students, you’ll be an integral part of a compassionate and dedicated team, working one-on-one or in small groups with children who have unique communication challenges.
This role isn’t just about support—it’s about connection, understanding, and helping these incredible children find their voice, whether through alternative communication methods, social interaction, or sensory-based learning. Your patience, empathy, and creativity will be key in unlocking each child’s potential, making every day a rewarding experience.
Application Requirements:
• Experience: Previous experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, particularly non-verbal children, is essential.
• Skills: Strong understanding of communication methods such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), Makaton, or similar.
• Qualifications: A relevant qualification in Special Educational Needs or Teaching Assistance is preferred.
• Attributes: Patience, empathy, resilience, and the ability to build strong, trusting relationships with children and staff alike.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide tailored support to non-verbal children with ASD, helping them engage with the curriculum and school activities.
• Implement and adapt learning strategies to meet individual needs, using tools like PECS or Makaton.
• Work closely with teachers, therapists, and parents to ensure a consistent approach to each child’s development.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment that encourages social interaction and emotional growth.
