Please note this is a fixed term contract opportunity for a period of 12 months working 22.2 hours per week.

Adult Mental Health Services are undergoing significant transformation. We have identified that we need a whole system change to support people to manage their mental health and we have ambitious plans to enable us to achieve this. We want to embed a strengths-based model of delivery so that people achieve good outcomes, can remain settled in their communities and become as well as they can be.

We are committed to working with and involving people with lived experience to shape and design our services.

This role will work alongside the Mental Health Commissioners to bring lived experience to the design of Mental Health services and to ensure that experience is threaded within the commissioning cycle in order to drive positive change.

Service/Functional Accountabilities

  • Provide positive role modelling and leadership for service user involvement and representation within the design, commissioning and provision of services in Essex.
  • Work with people who use services, are experts by experience and their families and carers to support existing user-led groups and develop new peer support user-led groups to embed and maintain co-production in the design, delivery and evaluation of services and policy for this population in Essex.
  • Work with relevant external agencies in Essex to develop and enhance Mental Health service across Essex.
  • Facilitate the development of locality networks, through engagement with local social care and health commissioners, voluntary sector, and third sector providers. This will include volunteer service networks, service-user networks, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Champion the voice of those using services. You will use insight from those using services to advise the Mental Health Transformation Board, and will consult with stakeholders, commissioners, operational managers and clinicians throughout Essex to ensure that this voice is considered in all that we do.
  • Develop, implement and manage a plan around co-production which effectively aligns to our mental health commissioning programme.
  • Take lead for co-production within the Mental Health team, driving our approach to co-production and service user involvement/consultation, making recommendations to commissioning managers and the mental health transformation board and working autonomously to explore and consider ways in which we can further improve our co-production plans.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • RFQ level 2 (GCSEs) or equivalent by experience.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Literate in IT/Computer Skills
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills
  • Advanced presentation skills
  • Supervision or management experience and skills
  • Skills and experience in leading projects and proven organisational skills
  • Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
  • A good understanding of adult social care and current national social care and health agenda and the range of complex needs of vulnerable adults at risk.
  • A working knowledge of the Care Act and excellent understanding of the key principles of the Good Lives approach as adopted by ECC.
  • A good working knowledge and ability to use information technology and related systems.
