The Bursar of Eton College now seeks to appoint a Clerk & Legal Advisor to the Provost and Fellows (Clerk & Legal Advisor herewith), to act as general legal counsel to the College and Clerk to the Provost and Fellows. The Clerk & Legal Advisor will advise on all legal, procedural and governance related matters of the College, and, as a member of Eton’s Leadership Team, will act as a conduit between the College’s senior management and the Provost and Fellows, keeping all relevant parties appraised of all legal matters affecting the College. He or she will also provide oversight of compliance with legal requirements, and will keep abreast of legal issues affecting independent schools and charities, providing briefings to the Provost and Fellows, Head Master, Bursar and wider staff body.

The Clerk & Legal Advisor will be a qualified and practising solicitor with a current Practising Certificate issued by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, bringing significant post-qualification experience gained within a ‘blue chip’ firm. Whilst direct experience of the independent education sector is not a requirement, he or she will demonstrate a clear understanding of the sensitivities and challenges of a sector under increasing financial and regulatory pressure, with experience potentially gained in complex environments beyond education.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record as a thought leader in their field or specialism, capable of shaping and influencing developments across the College. Crucially, he or she will work proactively, independently and with good humour, and will be impeccably organised and efficient, able to apply their skills to a complex and varied workload.
