High Level Overview Sweet Projects is looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to bolster the Defence team, based out of our Bristol offices near Filton. The team work on a variety of projects for various defence clients. Purpose The Assistant Quantity Surveyor is responsible for the commercial assistance and administration as part of a team on projects. This requires delivery of sound commercial practice on all tasks allocated and working with the project commercial leadership and site management to optimise profitability and cash generation on all projects. Liaise with Senior Quantity Surveyor and Quantity Surveyor to ensure project meets quantity surveying best practice and compliance with the Companies business authorisation levels & controls quality, health, safety and environmental procedures. Under the guidance of SQS protect the Company’s financial, commercial, contractual interests, liabilities, rights, risks and opportunities appertaining to matters under your charge. Assist the Senior Quantity Surveyor and Quantity Surveyor in the provision of high quality contractual and commercial advice. Assist the PS / MQS in achieving Project budgets for turnover, cash generation and margin. Attaining and maintaining strong cost and risk awareness. Promote and implement Sweet Projects business initiatives and working practices Maintain target set by line manager and review on regular basis. Support the project surveying team to carry out quantity surveying duties in conjunction with other project team members and provide effective financial, commercial and contractual control on all contracts. Key Responsibilities Assistance with the delivery of high quality commercial and administration practice on all projects allocated. Working with project commercial leadership to ensure all projects meet and exceed objectives set for turnover, cash and profitability, both on an interim and final basis. Working with project commercial leadership and site management to assist in the recovery of full financial entitlements on projects including the measurement of change and resolution of issues with an effect on profitability. Assisting in the implementing of project procurement strategies and requirements and ensuring the correct procurement, administration, payment processes and management of subcontracts under their responsibility. Assisting in the identification of project risks and the implementation of effective management strategies. Undertake costing activities, under direction, utilising a sound working knowledge of the cost coding structure for the project. Measure completed works for allocated sections of the project, for interim and final accounts, including recording agreements with client and/or subcontract representatives. Collate and / or produce site records necessary for interim and final account payments and cost reports, including materials received records. Provide comprehensive financial and surveying related information as required by senior management, including monthly performance review meetings. Measure the works for payment and final account purposes. Preparation and submission of valuations and final accounts. Record all relevant events for delay and loss and expense claims. Monitor and ensure that full payment is received for all work claimed and certified. Measurement, certification and agreement of subcontractor accounts. Liaise with customer representatives and other members of the team to ensure effective communications and a cohesive working environment. Provide support to operations staff on surveying matters. Ensure that the quality management processes are cascaded and duly acted upon. Qualifications HNC / HND or Degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related field. Working towards RICS, CIOB, or another relevant professional accreditation (advantageous). Experience required At least 1 year of experience on-site in the construction industry Working knowledge of NEC, JCT, and FIDIC contracts. Understanding of procurement processes, tendering, and supply chain management. Knowledge of cost/value reconciliation, forecasting, and commercial reporting. Experience in subcontractor management, valuations, and change control. Exposure to risk management and mitigation strategies. Competencies Team awareness. Time management and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise workloads. Strong analytical and numerical skills. Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
