About the Role
We are seeking an experienced draughtsperson to join our Drawing Office team. The role involves working on hybrid steel and timber projects, as well as commercial and industrial construction projects, including design and build for portal frames and multi-story complex structures. As a detailer, you will collaborate closely with the Contracts team and project engineers, reporting directly to the Drawing Office Manager.
Your primary responsibilities will include creating 3D models using Tekla Structures, preparing general arrangement drawings, submitting Requests for Information (RFIs) to clients, detailing connections, and generating fabrication packs for the Production Department. Additionally, you will liaise with the purchasing department for preliminary material requisitions.
Key Skills, Experience & Attributes:
Experience: Minimum of 5 years using Tekla Structures (3D).
Industry Knowledge: Experience in the Structural Steel industry and general detailing practices is essential.
Detail-Oriented: High attention to detail and accuracy.
Optional Skills: Experience in detailing timber glulam and CLT is beneficial; training available if needed.
Software Proficiency: Familiarity with AutoCAD (2D) is desirable, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Adaptability: Capable of working under pressure while adhering to schedules.
Communication: Strong communication skills, able to interact with project teams, in-house designers, engineers, architects, and clients.
Professionalism: Good punctuality, proactive approach, and strong presentation skills.
Career Growth: Desire to expand knowledge of new construction methods within the company's supply chain.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Modelling: Use Tekla to model structures based on engineers' design calculations and drawings.
Detailing: Add connections per engineers' specifications.
Drawing Management: Produce and manage general arrangement drawings, from preliminary to as-built stages.
Fabrication Preparation: Prepare and distribute fabrication packs, including assembly drawings, CAM data, and material lists.
Technical Queries: Raise and manage technical queries to ensure all project requirements are met.
Phasing Plans: Produce lotting and phasing plans as required.
Documentation: Keep drawing office project documents up to date, including drawing registers and RFI trackers.
Support: Assist the project QS and/or Contracts Coordinator with variations when necessary.
Reading & Understanding: Interpret structural engineers' and architects' general arrangement drawings, design reports, and specifications.
External Engagement: Communicate with project subcontractors to obtain key project information.
Teamwork: Work independently or as part of a small team on larger projects.
Regulations Knowledge: Maintain an understanding of current regulations and codes.
