Job Description

Job Purpose / Overview

Working in the Planning Discipline of Integrated Project Controls, under the direction and leadership of the IPC Planning Manager, to establish, develop and maintain Project schedules / plans for either the Central Controls Team or one of the Programme Controls Teams. This will include the timely and accurate maintenance of the Integrated Work Schedule (IWS) in adherence with HPC processes, management of Level 3 (contract) schedules, and provision of time-related data and analysis. To assist and support the Central Controls Team when required to ensure alignment with the Level 2 (client) IWS. To support EDF Energy in making informed decisions to support the efficient and timely delivery of work scope

It is the overarching objective of the Integrated Project Controls (IPC) Function to act as a centre of excellence: the intelligent owners of the single source of delivery performance information, operating as an integrated enabler for the successful delivery of the HPC Project.

The Nuclear environment is highly regulated by the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR);nNuclear Safety Culture is of paramount importance to the Project and embedded throughout.

Key Interfaces include:nPlanning Discipline;nOther Integrated Project Controls Disciplines (Cost, Estimating, Risk, Performance Measurement & Analysis, Project Controls Managers (PCMs));nProject & Programme Managers;nSupply Chain Partners (Tier 1).

Framework & Boundaries

Breadth of Responsibility:nPeople: None;nBudgets: None;nContracts: The jobholder will manage a number of Project contracts that will vary in size and complexity.

Challenges and Problem Solving:nEnsure alignment of data between Planning and other Disciplines of Integrated Project Controls;nWork with key interfaces to identify and understand issues and concerns;nCollaboratively resolve issues, implement corrective action or escalate as required.

Decision-Making:nThe jobholder will maintain Project data within their area of work and will be expected to identify local issues and suggest resolutions or changes. The jobholder’s line manager will be accountable for the data and decisions will be referred upwards accordingly.

Principal Accountabilities

Team:nSupport the IPC Planning Manager and/or PCM in the implementation and maintenance of Integrated Project Controls processes for Planning, including the production of monthly reports, through the provision of intelligent information and analysis;nCollaborate with other Disciplines of Integrated Project Controls, as well as other Project Support Functions, to help deliver Project goals in keeping with the HPC principles of Trust, Transparency and Teamwork;nMaintain an awareness of schedule interfaces with other Programmes and their potential impact.

Core Processes:nProduce and maintain the schedule baseline IWS in Primavera 6 (P6), with fully logic-linked work plans aligned to the Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and utilising approved construction techniques;nEnsure the Level 2 IWS is updated to an agreed timeframe for monthly reporting;nEnsure the HPC Level 3 schedules are updated when required to reflect work progress and performance, to an agreed timeframe defined by the Central Controls Team;nEnsure that contractor schedules are produced in accordance with HPC processes and ensure that they align to the IWS forecast position;nMaintain daily and weekly work planning in 4D model;nProvide quality checks on the Scheduling data;nIdentify, analyse and provide solutions to time-related issues;nCo-ordinate and produce schedule reports to a defined reporting cycle;nAssist in the Trend & Change process, including analysis of schedule impact, generating performance indicators and providing feedback on areas of risk and opportunities;nAdhere to Project governance and Scheduling standards and procedures;nEnsure all Project documents, in particular Sensitive Nuclear Information, are correctly protectively marked, and protected in accordance with EDF policies and procedures.nDimensionsnHinkley Point C is a circa £20bn project;nThis role will involve working in either the Central Controls Team, which is the sub-division of the Integrated Project Controls Function that operates at Project level, or an integrated multi-disciplinary delivery team for one of the six Programmes (Civils, Nuclear Island, Conventional Island, Equipment, Commissioning, or Mechanical, Electrical & HVAC);nThe scope of each individual role will vary depending on the job-holder’s area of responsibility;nThe role reports to the Lead Planning Engineer, who in turn reports to either the IPC Planning Manager (Central) or to the PCM for the Programme with a functional report to the IPC Planning Manager;nThere are no subordinates in this role;nThe role is based at any HPC required location.

Detailed understanding of scheduling methodologies and techniques;nTechnical and practical comprehension of engineering, procurement and construction methods and techniques in a UK context;nAbility to produce accurate, complete and fully logic-linked construction plans;nGood working knowledge of P6;nHigh level of analytical and numerical skills;nGood attention to detail;nExcellent written and verbal communication skills.nDesirable

Understanding of other Disciplines of Project Controls (particularly Estimating, Cost and Risk) including management techniques and associated software;nUnderstanding of earned value analysis;nUnderstanding of various contract types, in particular the NEC suite and FIDIC;nWorking knowledge of schedule risk analysis techniques;nThe ability to build relationships both internally and externally;nGood commercial awareness;nWorking knowledge of French and/or Chinese languages an advantage.nQualifications & Experience

Minimum of HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Construction or other related field;nProven relevant experience in a Project Management or Project Controls environment in a similar Scheduling role;nExperience in the use of scheduling software, ideally Primavera P6 version 7 and above.nDesirable

Degree in Engineering, Construction or other related field;nProfessionally qualified with chartered or equivalent status;nExperience of commercial contracting;nExperience of working over the full lifecycle of a project;nExperience on a major construction project;nExperience in the Nuclear sector.nKey Competencies
