We are a centre of scientific, engineering and technological excellence, with some of the most advanced research, design and production facilities in the world. Our unique expertise also assists the UK Government in developing and delivering a range of innovative and integrated support services, including national nuclear security and counter-terrorism solutions.
AWE is current recruiting for a Software Developer and Operations role, to develop, deploy, and support software on AWE's High Performance Computing (HPC) supercomputer platforms.
Location: Aldermaston, West Berkshire (RG7 4PR).
We are located between Basingstoke and Reading with free onsite parking.
Due to the classified nature of the work involved with this role, it is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working onsite at AWE Aldermaston.
Package: £38,000 - c£46,000 per annum (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

What Will The Role Involve?
Design, develop, test, and deploy applications, tools and scripts for visualisation and engineering workflows.
Build, test, and deploy open-source and commercial applications
Update and maintain existing applications.
Update and automate software development workflows.
Produce documentation.
Support users with technical problems and queries.
Who Are We Looking For?
There is some flexibility on the level of experience required on entry to the role, but it is essential that the successful candidate has the following:
A degree or equivalent experience in computer science, physics, mathematics or other numerate discipline.
2+ years experience working in software development, DevOps or similar field.
The ability to program in C++, or a similar high-level language.
Ability to capture software requirements and produce appropriate implementations.
Clear and concise communication: both oral and written.
Ability to integrate and work well in a team.
In addition, any of the following would be an advantage:
Experience of continuous integration and continuous deployment.
Experience of unit testing, integration/functional testing, and test driven development (TDD).
Familiarity with CMake build system.
Familiarity with Python or a similar scripting language.
Experience of debuggers and performance analysis tools.
An understanding of object-oriented programming.
Exposure to scientific computing.
Experience of parallel computing, MPI, OpenMP or similar technologies.
Experience working in Linux.

Important things you need to know:
You must be a British citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 10 years.
Interviews will be 90 minutes in length and will be held over Microsoft Teams. You will be required to prepare a 10-minute presentation in advance.
Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE.
