Senior Infrastructure Desktop Engineer is required to join a prestigious financial services organisation with offices in the heart of the city. This is a busy and varied role that will see you undertaking both BAU and project work including software, infrastructure and security initiatives. Working closely with internal and external teams, you will help to devise, implement and maintain solutions including managing vendor relationships as required. You will also provide 2nd and 3rd level support for desktop related inquiries and develop custom scripts to help with more complex tasks or automations. This is a great opportunity to join a high-functioning technical team within a stable yet growth organisation.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in projects that involve new or upgraded software deployments. Work with project teams to confirm requirements, assess software, develop deployment packages, and manage system and user testing
  • Research, test, certify and document all operating system/application upgrades and patches to be deployed to desktops in the organisation
  • Create installation packages for new application installs, upgrades, and uninstalls
  • Develop scripts using PowerShell, VBScript, etc., as needed for software deployment, or support of infrastructure or security changes or queries of desktop systems
  • Develop and maintain standard desktop builds, including preserving security safeguards and settings
  • Provide 2nd and 3rd level support for desktop related inquiries and escalation support


Key skills and technical knowledge:

  • Ability to quickly grasp strategic and tactical requirements and propose creative solutions
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (ability to effectively communicate with technical and non-technical peers)
  • Proficiency with desktop and system management tools including SCCM, Admin Studio, GPO policies, scripting languages, and asset management systems.
  • Good knowledge of Active Directory, Windows 7 and Windows 10 operating systems, VBScript/PowerShell, GPO/AGPM, DNS, DHCP, SMS/SCCM, MS Office Suite, application packaging tools & techniques, WSUS, Citrix, application virtualization.
  • Strong knowledge of desktop applications and how they integrate with the operating systems and other applications.
  • Experience with software Licensing, Distribution & Packaging using any mainstream platform (SCCM, Altiris, etc.)
  • Patch Management expertise, remote administration, VPNs, etc.
  • Working knowledge of ITIL and support best practices -- including change, incident, and problem management.
  • Ability to manage small projects.
  • Experience working within financial services a strong plus.
