About the role:
This is an exciting time to join the British Museum and make a significant contribution to how we engage our many audiences. This role presents an opportunity to work in close collaboration with colleagues across the Public Engagement (PE) directorate, and the wider Museum, to coordinate the programme of engagement activity in line with the Museum’s strategic aims and objectives. The postholder will play a key role in planning, coordinating and monitoring our overall engagement programme, ensuring that we are delivering a strong, cohesive and compelling offer for audiences. This includes the development, review and implementation of relevant strategies and processes.
The postholder will also have a key role in the early development and coordination of some workstreams connected with the Museum’s masterplan projects, including the re-imagining of our Western Range galleries.
Key areas of responsibility:
- Define, plan and monitor a complex and varied public engagement programme in collaboration with colleagues across the Museum, and in line with agreed strategies and organisational objectives.
- Contribute to the development of long-term plans for the future of the Museum’s estate, as part of the masterplan programme, particularly with regard to audiences and display.
- Contribute to the planning of major cross-Museum projects, programmes and initiatives, and manage dependencies between the delivery of major cross-museum projects and initiatives.
- Define and maintain the programme governance structure and deliver a consistent control framework to manage risks, issues, quality, and lessons learned.
- Ensure the timely review of strategies, policies, processes and procedures across the PE directorate and support change initiatives as required.
About you:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent.
- Recognised project management qualification.
- Experience of managing complex projects involving multi-disciplinary teams.
- In-depth experience of project management processes e.g. risk management and issue resolution.
- Project or Programme Manager of major projects in culture or heritage sector.
- Corporate strategy and planning.
- Management of change projects
- Good communicator and facilitator.
- Strong team building and diplomacy skills.
- Able to present complex information effectively for different audiences
