Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Image Rights Manager to lead our image licensing operations, managing both the acquisition and distribution of visual content rights. This role requires expertise in complex licensing negotiations, strategic partnerships, and maximising portfolio value while ensuring full legal compliance. Key Responsibilities Rights Acquisition Source and negotiate purchase of image rights from photographers, agencies, estates, and content creators Evaluate portfolios for commercial potential and strategic fit Structure cost-effective licensing agreements that meet business needs Build relationships with key suppliers and conduct due diligence on provenance, model releases, and property rights Rights Distribution & Licensing Develop and execute monetisation strategies for image library Negotiate licensing deals across editorial, commercial, and corporate sectors Structure tiered pricing based on usage, territory, duration, and exclusivity Identify new revenue opportunities and manage contract renewals Legal & Compliance Ensure compliance with copyright law and industry regulations Draft and review licensing agreements, release forms, and contracts Manage multi-territory rights clearances and maintain accurate records of usage terms Coordinate with legal counsel on disputes or complex matters Portfolio & Business Management Maintain comprehensive database of image rights, restrictions, and expiration dates Monitor licensed usage for compliance and manage rights renewals Identify new business opportunities and develop client relationships Stay informed of market trends, pricing benchmarks, and competitive landscape Required Qualifications Experience 5-10 years in image rights management, licensing, or related field Proven track record negotiating complex licensing agreements for both acquisition and distribution Experience with diverse image types (photography, illustration, archival content) Knowledge & Skills Deep understanding of copyright law, intellectual property rights, and licensing structures Strong knowledge of usage rights terminology (editorial vs. commercial, exclusivity, territory, duration) Familiarity with model/property releases and various licensing models (royalty-free, rights-managed, creative commons) Proficiency with digital asset management (DAM) systems and rights management software Exceptional negotiation, relationship-building, and commercial acumen Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities Preferred Qualifications International licensing experience across multiple jurisdictions Established network of industry contacts Background in photography, visual arts, or media Relevant certifications or legal training in intellectual property Personal Attributes Detail-oriented, ethical, proactive, collaborative, and adaptable to the evolving digital landscape.
