Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer (Battery Storage Systems)

Location: Fully on-site/hybrid 3 days at our GivEnergy UK Head Office in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire (ST5 9HX) + 2 days WFH. You must have the ability to reliably commute, or plan to relocate before starting work

Schedule: Permanent, 37.5 hours per week. Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm (flexible)

Experience Level: Due to the nature of the role, a high level of experience in a similar role is preferred

Salary: £60K - £70k pa DOE (plus performance bonus scheme)

We’re looking for a Senior Embedded Firmware Engineer to join our growing R&D Team. The role will involve the understanding and analysis of firmware and algorithm requirements and the latest IoT Security Standards. What You’ll Be Doing:nYou’ll be part of a small team and will have the ability to influence the design and implementation of innovative new products. You’ll have the satisfaction of seeing a project through from inception to release, so we are looking for someone who can bring a solution-focused, positive approach.

Key responsibilities will include:nLeading the design and development of firmware under the guidance of the Head of R&D according to the needs of the project.nIdentifying scope of assigned work and provides a factual initial estimate.nExecuting in a fast-paced delivery mode, focused on delivering tasks to meet product requirements.nPerforming root cause analysis of assigned software defects and implements solutions.nWorking independently and also closely with the project team, other teams to engage with colleagues to learn, contribute, brainstorm, converge on technical designs and discussions.nFollowing SDLC processes, maintaining code quality by leading on best practices, code reviews and automated testing.nProduce documentation to capture all stages of work as per processnMentoring & coaching more junior engineers

What We’re Looking For:nWe know that one of the things that makes our people so successful and work together so brilliantly is their differences. As such, we don’t want you to consider this an exhaustive list – if it’s a yes to all the below, great If it’s most – we still want to hear from you:nBachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or Computer Science.nHigh level of experience in a similar firmware engineering role, proficiency in embedded C and/or C++nSolid experience in microprocessor or SOC development – PIC, STM32, ARM etc.nExperience of using peripherals such as UART, RS232, RS485, I2C, SPI, Ethernet, BLE, Wifi, etc.nProven experience on developing firmware with RTOS, e.g. FreeRTOS, RT-Linux, Threadx, etc.nHands on development with IoT infrastructure, MQTT, Protobuf, cryptography, secure boot, etc.nBare metal driver, BSP, board bring up.nBasic knowledge of electronics e.g. reading schematics, using test equipment such as DVM and oscilloscope etc.nFull software development life cycle experience including using git, Confluence and Linear.nExperience of testing frameworks for automated unit, functional and integration testing.nConfidence to tackle complex technical issues.nUnderstanding of electricity fundamentals (voltage, current, power) as well as electrical technologies like inverters, batteries and solar power will be advantageous.
