Operations Assistant (Performing Arts Centre)
Location: Cambridge CB2 8QF
Salary: Up to £27,192 per annum (Based on the full-time equivalent salary of £32,100 per annum)
Hours: Term Time only plus 13 days for an average of 37.5 hours per week (Including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break) Working hours will be flexible as required for events, including evenings and weekends.

The Role
The Operations Assistant will work closely with the Director of Theatre who is responsible for all creative elements of school productions, the Director of Parental Experience who is responsible for all operational elements of the Performing Arts Centre (PAC), the Senior Technician and the Operations Assistant (Creative). The Operations Assistant will have regular contact with pupils, assisting with the running of the pupil led Perse Production Company.
Areas of Responsibility:
* Assist with the organisation, development and successful delivery of PAC and school events
* Assist the Director of Theatre with organising and maintaining the workshop and with set construction (training will be provided)
* Assist the Senior Technician in facilitating the smooth and efficient running of some technical aspects of the PAC (training provided)
* Mentoring students on aspects of theatre production and or/event management.
Key Tasks
Production/Event Operations:
* Liaise closely with the director and production manager, assisting with production elements of school performances
* Assist with the smooth running of all PAC events (concerts, productions, lectures, assemblies, external lets etc)
* Support the Senior Technician for internal and external events and recordings in the PAC and on the School site
* Assist with the running of the pupil led Perse Production Company
* Assist the Director of Theatre with organising and maintaining the workshop and set materials
* Assist the Senior Technician with the sound, lighting, projection, stage management and all related technical aspects of the PAC, to support whole school and external events
* Maintain the backstage areas, keeping them in appropriate working condition and keeping an inventory
* Assist with the get-in and get-out at the beginning and end of productions
* Assist with the sourcing of props and costumes
Administration:
* Assist with routine administrative tasks including rehearsal and production schedules, responding to internal booking requests, box office administration, catering requests and maintaining drama rehearsal registers on the school’s extra-curricular software.
Health, Safety and Security:
* Maintain and update all back of house H&S procedures and records, with guidance from the Director of Parental Experience, Director of Theatre and Senior Technician
* Assist with writing risk assessments as required
* At all times carry out your duties in a manner which neither endangers yourself nor other people, rectifying or reporting anything you consider unsafe or likely to cause injury or ill health
Safeguarding:
* Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact
Skills and Qualifications
Essential:
* Strong organisational and administrative skills, ability to plan and prioritise, whilst multitasking across a range of areas of responsibility
* Problem solving skills and a ‘solution’ based approach to complex situations
* Initiative, using judgement of when to inform senior staff of issues arising
* Proactive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn new skills
* Empathy for pupils, parents, staff and the community
* Respects and values the different experiences, ideas and backgrounds others can bring to work
* ICT skills
Desirable:
* A working knowledge of technical theatre equipment (Knowledge of QLab and/or lighting software an advantage)
* Experience working with young people
* Knowledge of Health and Safety legislative requirements and good practice.
* A degree related to theatre, music, event management, performance or the arts
