The Maintenance Operative will support the Estates Maintenance Team by primarily carrying out basic routine planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and repair tasks, housekeeping and cleaning duties. This will also include exterior grounds maintenance.  

Work will be carried out to pre-set timescales, technical direction and standards.  

Maintenance Operative roles are based on 37 hours per week worked across Monday to Friday and we provide all tools and PPE.

Current Annual Salary of £26,567 for full time 37 hours per week. *

*Currently the working hours for the role are 37 hours per week however following a recent pay negotiation agreement: “SPS’ contractual full-time equivalent  working hours will reduce from 37 to 35 hours without a reduction in pay  (effective 1 December 2024).”

Minimum requirements for the role:

Successful candidates will be subject to pre-employment checks, which will include an Enhanced Disclosure Scotland check, References, DVLA licence check (where applicable) and Nationality checks as well as a Medical Assessment. 

Responsibilities: Undertake routine work such as minor repair tasks on electrical, plumbing, building equipment and painting work.Supported by the engineering team, you will carry out allocated tasks and be trained in electrical appliance testing, inspecting fire systems, equipment maintenance testing and inspection.Maintaining a safe and healthy working environment and reporting any dangers/deficiencies.Carry out external grounds maintenance throughout the year (including winter grounds maintenance and gritting where you may be asked to work out with your normal working hours (on-call)). You will be trained to operate grounds maintenance plant and equipment, maintaining stock levels of essential materials required to fully maintain the external roads, footpaths, grassed areas, hedgerows and beds.  Assisting with the escorting of specialist external contractors when required.Person Specification SPS recruitment and selection practice is based on the fundamentals of our Behavioural Competency Framework.
