World Snooker Limited is the commercial entity responsible for the commercial exploitation and promotion of professional snooker events and is the custodian of the sport’s commercial rights. Our vision is to expand our global footprint and increase our portfolio of major events. That means making our major events, like the World Championship, Masters, and UK Championship, bigger and better. It means enhancing the status of our other own managed Tour Events, like the Tour Championship, Players Championship and German Masters amongst others. Finally, it also means driving growth in the major international events that we sanction like the Shanghai Masters, Hong Kong Masters, China Championship and Yushan World Open.


Under the leadership of Chairman, Steve Dawson and CEO, Simon Brownell, The World Snooker Tour is going through an exciting period of innovation and strategic growth. The Tour has developed a diverse calendar of over 20 events and nurtured a vast and committed audience of over 500 million viewers worldwide.


The next challenge is not only continuing this growth, but also to drive engagement between the sport and its loyal audience so that we can deliver against their needs, as well as providing the benefits of brand allegiance and targeted exposure for our many partners and sponsors.


The Head of Digital and Content will report to the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, managing a team of two Digital Content Producers and a Digital Manager. They will work alongside the Head of Marketing and Head of Communications in the wider Marcomms structure.


Key responsibilities


- Leading the business across social media, video content, and web & app development

- Striving to increase the digital footprint of WST across all key channels

- Increasing the quantity and quality of WST content production and distribution

- Creating and implementing strategies to grow our follower base across social media channels with an eye on the monetisation potential

- Implement a clear archive monetisation strategy across YouTube and OTT platform

- Developing clear and unique channel strategies ensuring every piece of content is fit for purpose to meet objectives, non-standardised and posted across all platforms

- Producing engaging, compelling storytelling content across the season

- To always adapt and learn to the results of our output, ensuring we focus on what makes a real difference

- Leading on the development of WST’s first OTT platform housing both streaming and archive

- Ensuring the appropriate frequency of content pre, during, post and inter-event

- Working with our PR agency to create unique content opportunities across sports and other cultural mediums to promote snooker as an evolvoing, mainstream sport

- Developing a best-in-class website and app which meets company objectives across all areas. Becoming the go to destination for the latest info for all snooker fans

- Supporting our global social media agencies with the necessary content in a timely manner to boost our global following in key markets

- Leading a team of content and digital staff, coaching their development, and supporting their growth

- Confidence dealing with top level sportspeople to create content


Other duties


- Reporting to the board on performance key metrics, in conjunction with our insight department

- Attending events to lead the team and ensure the highest levels of performance and output

- Ensuring all equipment is maintained and we are adequately equipped to meet our content needs


Essential skills & experiences


- Proven track record of quality content production

- Understanding of the current landscape of sports content digital strategies

- Ability to produce and edit content and coach a team of Content Producers and Digital Manager

- Works well under pressure and able to cope with a dynamic and changeable industry

- High level of energy, drive and desire to exceed targets

- Lead the social media output for a relevant company of similar or larger size

- Evidence of adapting a social media strategy based on data and trends

- Clear examples of creating content which has led to a significant and consistent growth in audience


Desirable skills & experiences

- Experience working with high profile sports people/artists/clients

- Portfolio of sports based content production

- Ability to work on a strategic level as well as hands on to support the team

- Experience in web&app development and management

- Strong connections in the sports industry, across various sports and media outlets

- Experience with large scale streaming and OTT platforms
