Senior Quantity Surveyor
Location: Birmingham, UK
Salary: Up to £65,000 per annum plus additional benefits
One of the UK’s leading Tier 1 contractors is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to work within a commercial team on a portfolio of multidisciplinary light rail projects. This role involves overseeing projects from inception through to final account and closeout, with the aim of achieving maximum commercial results. You will be pivotal in delivering significant infrastructure projects that enhance the region’s transport network.
Key Responsibilities:
Work within a commercial team across a range of projects, to foster a strong commercial focus and adherence to best practices.
Responsible for overseeing all aspects of contractual management, including the preparation of contract documents such as bills of quantities, specifications, and drawings.
Manage the Risk & Opportunities process to identify and address potential risks and opportunities during the tender and construction phases, ensuring that contractual solutions are effectively balanced.
Set and manage project budgets, monitor costs, and establish robust project life cycle cost forecasts.
Ensure rigorous cost control through proactive recording of contractual entitlements, timely notification of events, and accurate pricing of changes. Thus, providing accurate financial data and management reports, including Earned Value Management.
Support procurement processes to ensure projects are delivered safely on time, within budget, and to the highest quality. This includes validating procurement expenditures, managing cash flow, and ensuring timely payments to the Supply Chain.
Handle the negotiation and resolution of contractual disputes and final accounts within Delegated Financial Authority levels.
Competencies:
Have substantial experience in a finance or commercial function within the engineering or construction sector, with a proven track record managing large-scale civils or infrastructure projects. As well as a strong working knowledge of finance systems and various forms of contracts is essential.
Possess expertise in cost and budget administration.
Proficient in financial and commercial reporting to board level.
Use Microsoft Office and other relevant software effectively.
Strong communication and negotiation skills.
Capability to interface effectively with project, engineering, finance, and procurement teams.
Qualification Requirements:
A degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management, accredited by a relevant professional body such as the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
A minimum of 5 years of experience in Commercial Management as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor, with a successful track record on major projects.
