Job Purpose
To provide the daily clinical and managerial nursing leadership for the service and be responsible for ensuring that standards of care are upheld at all times.
To be highly visible and accessible to residents and their families and staff, ensuring all residents and their
families have the opportunity to seek information, receive help and support, or communicate problematic or celebratory issues.
To support the Registered Manager to deliver high quality resident care within the constraints of the financial budget whilst maintaining resident safety at all times.
To adopt a flexible approach to hours of duty in order to meet the needs of the service over a 24 hour period.
Key Responsibilities
Provide day to day management of a team of staff working within the service.
Work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the efficient and effective running of the unit.
Deputise for the Registered Manager when required.
Participate of the unit on call rota.
Contribute to the ongoing development of person-centred services.
Contribute to the successful attainment of national quality and safety objectives.
Provide specialist clinical advice and care.
Resident Care
· Ensure that residents care needs are assessed and programs of care are developed, implemented,
evaluated and documented.
· Provide professional advice, guidance and support to team members so that they are able to
to carry out their duties.
· Ensure compliance with the safe storage and administration of drugs/medication in
accordance with Company policies and legislation.
· Promote relevant clinical skills and provide Supervision and assessment of other members of the care team.
· Promote high standards of residents privacy and dignity, wishes and beliefs and involve them
in shared decision making whilst respecting personal boundaries
· Be responsible for ensuring that infection, prevention and control measures are in place and are adhered to.
Communication and Information
· Recognise the need for appropriate referrals to statutory bodies (e.g. safeguarding, DoLS, CQC) and ensure
that relevant documentation is completed.
· Ensure the effective communication of resident care and essential information with
internal/external colleagues.
· Be able to communicate difficult, sometimes complex and emotive information e.g. breaking
bad news etc. effectively and, where appropriate, support and coach junior staff in doing the
same.
· Communicate effectively via verbal, written and electronic routes.
· Ensure accurate and legible record keeping in accordance with local policies and NMC
Guidelines.
· Act as chair for meetings as appropriate.
Supervisory and Management Responsibilities
· Take charge of the unit when required.
· Assist the Registered Manager in the cascade of key information and key messages to
the nursing team in a timely manner.
· Adhere to the Company complaints and concerns procedures with regard to written and verbal complaints, and escalate cases where necessary.
· Allocate workload and, where appropriate, delegate responsibilities amongst the team.
· Working with the registered manager, be responsible for effective rostering of staff.
