Most are at rock bottom, having to live with the regret of what they have done - education gives them a focus. And hope.
Details of this position:
This position is for a full time Peer Mentoring and PSD Outreach Tutor to work in prison education.
As a Tutor delivering education in prisons, you can really make a difference to improve people's lives. Challenging, yet extremely rewarding, this role plays a significant part in helping to reduce our learners re-offending.
The Peer Mentoring and PSD Outreach subject will require a candidate to go onto the main prison wing, getting learners reengaged in their education. You would be a go-to for the learners, so a compssionate and flexible attitude is essential.
You will be required to:
Identify the individual needs of learners ensuring that all learners have an individual learning plan which links to their long-term employment goals.
Continually review our learner's progression to ensure that the training continues to meet their identified needs.
Prepare, deliver and review comprehensive lesson plans for all sessions that address the training needs of the group including basic literacy, numeracy, language and other social / employability barriers to employment.
Actively gain feedback from learners and other sources, reviewing & improving curriculum content accordingly.Work schedule: Full time 37 hours per week
Salary scale: From £30,000 per annum
Annual leave: 30 days per annum
To be considered, suitable candidates will need to meet the following criteria:
Experience in PSD, Peer Mentoring or Pastoral roles.
Full teaching qualification at Level 5 or above or equivalent ( e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, DTTLS)
If you don't have a teaching qualification, the company will porivde one fully funded.
Confidence in using a diverse range of presentation, facilitation and communication skills.
The ability to handle challenging situations whilst remaining calm and in control especially in a group situation.
Respect for and understanding of Safeguarding, Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety and Data Protection policies with specific attention to health and safety requirements when organising off-site activities.

Suitable candidates will need to be enthusiastic, resilient and have a humanistic approach.
