About this Role Milk Education are working in partnership with a large generic special school in Leeds. All learners have special learning needs, and some have physical or medical difficulties. The age range of the students within school are 2 – 19 years old. Are you passionate about wanting to join a team who want to make a difference to learner’s lives? The school based in north Leeds are seeking level 1 teaching assistants to work within their Sensory or Communication based pathways. There are opportunities to work across EYFS, Primary, Secondary and Post 16 classrooms. What the school require: An enthusiastic & proactive individual who are willing to learn, support teaching and learning and address the personal needs of their learners You will need to be flexible and adaptable, a good communicator, cheerful, calm and be able to work as part of our team Prior experience of working with SEN learners is preferably – ideally ASC, SLC, PMLD Key Responsibilities of the role: Providing 1:1 and small-group academic and emotional support. To attend to the learners’ personal needs, and implement related personal programmes, including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters. Support pupils with emotional regulation, engagement, and sensory needs (full training provided). Supporting learners who may have complex medical needs and who may need medical support, training will be provided. Supporting learners who require additional support with communication, including those learners with a mechanical system of communication. The post holder may also be required to use British Sign Language and/or Makaton, (a form of sign language for SEN learners) if so, training will be provided To establish good relationships with learners, acting as a role model, being aware of, and responding appropriately to individual needs.
