As Venterra continues to expand, we are on the lookout for a Project Management & Project Excellence Lead to join our Design Service Line.


The Venterra Design Service Line incorporates the design and analysis of foundations and substations for Floating and fixed Offshore Wind, Monopiles and Jackets, T&I, Onshore and Offshore substation design and Onshore Renewables. The selected candidate will be employed through Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions (GDG).



Role Description:


As a Geotechnical Design Engineer / Engineering Geologist you will be working closely with a passionate and ambitious team of design engineers to deliver innovative and optimised solutions. You'll gain hands-on experience across a diverse range of projects, spanning from large-scale infrastructure projects within the energy and renewables sectors, to local commercial developments throughout the UK. While you'll be based in our Midlands office, you'll also have opportunities to work on-site throughout the UK and potentially Ireland, providing you with exposure to various geological settings and ground hazards.



Key Responsibilities:


  • Scoping and producing specifications for ground investigations.
  • Site Supervision of geotechnical and geoenvironmental investigations and earthworks.
  • Client liaison and project management
  • Coordinating and procurement for specialist subcontractors for site investigations
  • Engaging in a mix of on-site ground investigation logging, structural investigation supervision, and office-based geotechnical and geo-structural analysis work.
  • Developing ground models and determine geotechnical parameters.
  • Designing various geotechnical structures, including piles, foundations, retaining walls and reinforced soil slopes and walls.
  • Conducting ground movement assessments and settlement analysis.
  • Assisting Line Manager in Business Development.


Expertise Required:


  • Excellent communication and presentation skills;
  • Technical report writing (including Desk Studies and Ground Investigation Reports), with a keen interest in developing Interpretive Report writing skills and knowledge.
  • Experience of soil logging UK and/or Irish soils/rock to BS: EN 5930:2015 is highly desirable;
  • Previous use of GIS/AutoCAD would also be highly desirable but not essential as training can be provided;
  • Working knowledge of relevant aspects of Eurocode 7 and UK annex design codes.
  • Some familiarity with geotechnical modelling would be advantageous and experience in the use of basic geotechnical design software such as GeoStudio/Oasys Suite/Geo5 is desirable, but not essential as training will be provided.
  • Good understanding of Health and Safety requirements for ground investigations/site supervision.
  • A full clean driver’s licence.


Education/Qualifications:


  • Hold a University Degree in Geotechnical/Geology related discipline
  • CSCS card
  • First Aid at Work (preferable)
  • SMSTS/IOSHH (preferable)
