Clinical Nurse Specialist - Paediatric Dermatology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Dermatology nurse to join our friendly and driven Paediatric Dermatology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team which is part of the internationally renowned St. John's Institute of Dermatology. This is a 12 month contract to cover Maternity leave.

We are looking for a dynamic and committed nurse, who has a strong background in Dermatology is flexible, ambitious, and proactive and has the ability to communicate effectively.

Currently we see patients with eczema and other inflammatory skin diseaseso skin infectionso vascular malformations (collections of abnormal blood vessels) and birthmarkso hair and nail disorderso children's vulval skin disorderso vitiligo (white patches on the skin)

The Paediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist team run various clinics throughout the week seeing patients with Severe Eczema, General dermatology patients and patients on systemic and medication.

Non- medical prescribing is a core component of the role but applications are welcomed from staff willing to imminently undertake the course if successful.

The successful candidate is expected to clinically lead on nursing care along the patient pathway and work closely with the multidisciplinary team.

Once competent, the CNS will work autonomously managing their own nurse led clinics, which comprise of completing treatment plans, initiating and monitoring patients on systemic and biological therapies.

You will be required to act as a leader and role model providing clinical supervision, teaching and mentoring to junior colleagues and peers and supporting in clinics.

There is an anticipation that you actively seek involvement in quality and improvement initiatives and undertake clinical audits with a view to being involved in research.

The post holder will act as a lead specialist and will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist service, providing specialist advice, education and support to health care professionals and patients. The post holder will actively undertake, nurse led clinics, clinical audits and teaching and education within the specialist area.

The post holder will be responsible for contributing to the ongoing development of clinical practice, research and standards of care within the service, including development of policies, protocols and guidelines and contribute to service developments in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues. Also ensures the safety and well being of services users, andalways working in a manner that promotes dignity and human rights through the adoption of person centred care principles.

Person Specification

Educational/Qualification

Essential

  • BSc in general/children's nursing or equivalent qualification/training
  • RN1 Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
  • Leadership Course/knowledge
  • Post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or equivalent post qualification experience.
  • Extensive Dermatology experience

Desirable

  • To have or working towards a non medical physical assessment course
  • To have or working towards non- medical prescriber qualification

Skills

Essential

  • Advanced clinical, managerial and leadership skills in specialty.
  • Ability to clinically lead & influence staff
  • Ability to conduct & evaluate own projects successfully

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience of working autonomously at an advanced level within the specialist area delivering effective patient focused care.
  • Experience of delivering change management both personally and as a facilitator
  • Proven evidence of management / leadership skills and autonomous practice
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal & communication skills
