We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic, and experienced Head Chef working in conjunction with the Group Executive Chef to ensure the smooth running of all aspects of Student dining at this independent school based in Uppingham.

Uppingham - Uppingham School is an Independent School that has numerous locations throughout the town. There are fifteen boarding houses in total & two Hub kitchens across the site, some houses have in house Chef's. Hub Kitchen's prepare food for six houses & it is then delivered to various houses. The required role would be based in the HUB Kitchen's.

A day in the life of a Head Chef:

  • The Head Chef will plan, organise, and direct the preparation and cooking of all food within a HUB, serving three houses within the estate. Ensuring that the school's reputation for quality, consistency & choice is enhanced for Students & House Staff at all times
  • We provide Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner service across all locations, along with any other ad hoc requirements for the houses.
  • Adopt a hands-on approach taking full responsibility & accountability for the food production within the HUB kitchen
  • Possess an exceptional drive for preparing & delivering high levels of Consistency, Quality & Choice across all food services
  • Responsibility & accountability for Food Safety, Health & Safety, HACCP and COSHH within the HUB kitchens
  • The Head Chef will also be required to maintain food monitoring procedures to facilitate budgetary control and to monitor all costs involved in the kitchen against agreed budgets.
  • Food Ordering & Stocktaking
  • Develop good commercial relationships with suppliers, ensuring receipt of service and quality levels required to obtain the highest financial return
  • Ensure all daily paperwork / computer data is completed & all inventories and reports are completed correctly and on time
  • Be accountable for the management and delivery of budget food subsidy, including GP & labour costs

You will be set up for success if you have:

  • Proven experience in a role as Head Chef being able to demonstrate a track record of catering for large numbers
  • Have a 'big personality.' Great people skills and be able to lead, develop, train, and inspire your team.
  • Have a real passion for food and customer service along with bags of enthusiasm.
  • Food Innovation and development is essential along with being up to date with current food trends
  • A good knowledge level of Allergens, Natasha's law & ensure up to date on any relevant changes that would impact the service provided
  • Ability to communicate at all levels - Team, management & client levels
  • Superb culinary skills
