Locum Consultant Physician

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant Neurologist or Geriatrician to join the Neurosciences Department at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a forward thinking and energetic neurologist to be part of the team delivering hyperacute, acute stroke services and neurology on the Denmark Hill (DH) site.
The Stroke service at Denmark Hill comprises of a 12 bedded Hyper Acute Stroke Unit (HASU) and a 16 bedded Stroke Unit (SU). We see about 1200 acute stroke patients per year at the DH HASU, and provide a 24/7 thrombolysis and with St George's Hospital run a 24/7 Thrombectomy centre for South East London and Kent on the Denmark Hill site.
The On-Call commitment is for a 1:12 rota, which is classed as Category A. There is a commitment to undertake routine job planned work on Saturdays or Sundays as part of the total job planned PAs.
The post will involve rotational weeks working on the HASU at Denmark Hill (1:8), acute neurology or stroke rehabilitation and contributing to daily neurovascular clinics. Weekend working and on-call will be expected. Outside of the weeks doing rotarised stroke and other neurovascular work, the candidate will be expected to do two clinics per week seeing ward discharges from the stroke ward and external referrals.
There is also potential for additional PAs that could be negotiated when in post following discussion with the Clinical Stroke and Neurology leads.

Together with other colleagues, to provide a high quality care service to patients. Shared responsibility with other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis. Responsible also for covering colleagues periods of annual leave and short-term sickness.
Provide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitionersas a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues.
Responsible for outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Groups management team.
Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the Care Groups Business Plan. This will include fostering and developing projects focused towards these ends and ensuring that the momentum of post-qualification professional education and other appropriate training is maintained.
This may include involvement in the appraisal process for peers and/or junior colleagues.
Be aware of, and comply with, all Trust infection prevention and control policies, to include hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene.
Audit and Quality Improvement
Must have undertaken and completed audit projects
Training and Experience
Wide experience in all aspects of Stroke and Neurology with the award of a CCT in Neurology, Geriatrics or General Medicine.
Experience of successful working at the interface between the specialties of Stroke and/or acute neurology and other medical specialties.
Experience in day to day organisation of stroke and neurology services in a busy Teaching Hospital.
Familiar with current structure of Health Service and conversant with recent initiatives and changes.
