About the role
Through an EU Horizon funded Cardiomyopathy Consortium initiative (DCM-NEXT), this post offers the candidate an exciting opportunity to undertake a 3 year research programme in dilated cardiomyopathy. The research focuses on the academic strengths of the College and its partner hospitals in the world-leading expertise in dilated cardiomyopathy, genomic medicine, CMR and prognosis research. The post will facilitate 'early career success' by placing a talented individual within a highly supportive environment and providing them with clinical research experience under expert supervision and mentorship.
What you would be doing
You will work on research suitable towards obtaining a higher degree such as a PhD. The project is an exciting opportunity to lead imaging, genetics and prognostic research in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy, contributing to an expert European Cardiomyopathy Consortium (DCM-NEXT).
The successful applicant will help drive new work exploring the prognostic drivers in dilated cardiomyopathy, encompassing genetic and imaging factors, as well as the impact of sex specific approaches to disease stratification. They will work within a team of clinical researchers, research nurses, bioinformaticians and lab scientists. The successful applicant will support cohort recruitment and curation. Subject to their interests, they will have the opportunity to train in the interpretation of genetic sequencing data, CMR acquisition and interpretation, machine learning and prognostic modelling. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to meet and collaborate with cardiomyopathy experts across Europe as part of this consortium.
What we are looking for
This job is aimed at individuals who are in the final stages of their clinical cardiology training or who have recently completed their cardiology training and wish to pursue research training. You will be expected to register for a PhD, and in doing so, will benefit from dedicated mentorship and supervision from a distinguished supervisory team. This opportunity offers a supportive and enriching environment aimed at facilitating your academic and professional growth.
You must be able to demonstrate evidence of outstanding academic and/or outstanding research achievements e.g. degrees, presentations at meetings, publications, awards and prizes. The evidence must demonstrate the potential to achieve the highest standards of scientific research and maintain an independent, high-profile academic research career.
You must also have:
- Medical qualification with registration at the General Medical Council
- MRCP or equivalent
