We have a fantastic opportunity at HMP Parc to join the Novus education team as our Hair and Beauty Trainer on a permanent, full-time basis, working 40 hours a week.
Job description
We are looking for a Hair and Beauty Trainer to join our education team at HMP Parc in our Young Peoples Unit (16-18). You will be working alongside the education team to deliver high quality Hair and Beauty lessons to classes of up to 6 learners. You must have experience with Barbering - including styling, cutting, and plaiting and have experience working with both European and Afro Caribbean hair. You will need patience, passion and understanding in your approach which will in turn help our learners to secure future employment opportunities post-release. You will be working in a fully refurbished classroom equipped with everything you will need to succeed in this role.
The successful candidate should have a genuine passion for the subject, the ability to be an outstanding teacher of their subject and be committed to raising achievement, raising aspirations, and going the extra mile.
The Prison security team are always on hand to ensure the lessons run safely and smoothly. Time is available during the day to plan the lessons and your Local Education Manager is always on hand to provide support as and when needed.
Due to the nature of the establishment, all aspects of the role are carried out onsite - no more spending your evenings and weekends planning
To be successful in the role, you will need:
Have at least 2 years' experience in the relevant vocational area.
Willing to gain Award in Education within 6 months.
Willing to gain the TAQA assessment qualification within probation.
Commitment to gain a subject-specific qualification to allow them to train to Level 3, within 2 years.
Commitment to gain an assessor award required by relevant Awarding Bodies, within one year.
Hold at least a Level 1 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy or be willing to commit to gaining the qualification(s) within 1 year.
Have a history of working effectively with people presenting challenging behaviour.
Gain/hold and maintain a clean, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.About Novus Gower
