About this client/child: Harry is 15 years old and lives with his lovely mum and younger sister. One of Harry’s biggest passions is football; he could talk about football until the cows come home You do not need to be a big football fan, although having some interest in football would be a huge bonus. Harry also likes Basketball. Harry also loves to play FIFA so you will need to be savvy with game consoles. He has a Hangout room where he completes his homework, therapy exercises and plays games. Harry will either chill out in his room or hang out with his mum after school before homework and tea. Harry has complex care and medical needs, his disabilities include, an Acquired Brain Injury, Allergies, Epilepsy, visual and mobility issues. These will be discussed in more detail on application.
Overview of role: Harry is currently recovering from a spinal operation, as a result his typical routine now is a little different due to his rehab; he has physio sessions to follow and swimming; both helping his recovery massively. You must be a good swimmer. The SEN Support Worker / PA will assist with Harry’s daytime, afterschool and weekend routine, promote his independence, encourage and motivate him with his therapy plan, and enable him to participate in extra-curricular activities and explore new hobbies and interests. Due to Harry’s SEN and Cerebral Visual Impairment (CVI), he has no awareness of danger. When taking Harry out on any visits to shops, parks etc., you need to be super vigilant. Harry responds positively to structure, routine and being prepared for the next steps; it is essential he has plenty of notice, otherwise he can display behaviours that may challenge. Harry is building a team of SEN Support Workers / PA to assist him, therefore there is plenty of flexibility for e.g. working weekdays or including the weekend. Who this job would suit: An experienced professional *Male SEN Support Worker / PA, who is compassionate, patient, has a strong work ethic, good time keeping, excellent communication skills, and a fabulous sense of humour. It is essential that you can work in collaboration with Harry’s family and his MDT. Harry and his family have strong Christian faith, therefore it is essential you are respectful of this, and understand that Harry needs his team’s support to practice.
What’s great about this job: There will be fantastic onboarding, and ongoing supervision from the rehab team and case manager. You will have the opportunity to really put your skills as a support worker to use, in supporting Harry long term and enabling him to reach his full potential.
