About the role:

This role is responsible for designing an annual calendar of high-quality events for Supporters and Members, making best use of resources to ensure Supporters feel valued.

Members and Supporters enjoy a number of benefits including access to free out of hours events (which help the Museum to retain its existing Members’ loyalty) and the opportunity to book events for which there is an additional charge (which help the Museum to generate additional income). The Membership and Supporter Events Manager is responsible for developing, delivering and managing the Members’ events programme. The role is also responsible for liaising with wider Advancement, and the Museum’s central Events’ team, regarding supporter events, with a particular focus on events for the Museum’s Patrons groups.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • To take responsibility for all Member events including:
    • Designing a hybrid event programme for Members which retains, recruits and engages Members (to be signed off by the Membership and Supporter Engagement Manager)
    • Delivering income targets and managing the budget for Membership events
    • Developing, managing, delivering and evaluating each event, including overseeing all elements of event planning (including event briefs and risk assessments)
    • Supporting the Membership and Supporter Engagement Team as they design a campaign of communications to promote events
    • Recruiting and managing freelance and volunteer staff where required
    • Liaising with other departments to identify opportunities and collaborations, as well as avoiding overlap of event content and pressure on space
  • To support the Museum’s Patrons programme and the stewardship of wider Supporters by:
    • Working with the Museum’s central Events team to plan and execute on-site events for Patrons and other Museum supporters including drop-in talks, tours and exhibition-related events
    • Ensuring that copy for Patron and Supporter events is available for inclusion in printed and e-communications
  • Additional responsibilities
    • Managing the Membership and Supporter Events Coordinator and the Membership Engagement Administrative Assistant
    • Representing the Membership team at weekly event meetings and at Front of House meetings
    • Supporting the Membership and Supporter Engagement Manager with other projects as appropriate

About you:

  • Degree or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience managing both large and small events that would include experience of following relevant legislation and health and safety guidance
  • Highly organised and creative, with excellent planning skills and strong understanding of event design, development, delivery and review
  • Confident user of software packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Flexible, proactive and a good negotiator
