Senior Performance Manager - Asset Owner (Exclusive mandate)


London, Hybrid


The Client:


Our client, a global leader in responsible investment managing a £10bn+ fund are seeking to onboard a Senior Performance Manager. The fund is highly diverse, with allocations to both traditional (equities, real estate, credit) and non-traditional assets (private equity, venture capital, absolute return funds, and more).


The Position:


This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and manage performance reporting and analytics for a multi-asset fund. Responsibilities include developing the performance reporting strategy, managing production processes, redefining systems, enhancing performance outputs, and stakeholder management. You'll engage with Trustees, Executive Management, and Investment teams, providing insightful and timely performance information. The role reports to the Head of Performance/Risk, the role includes one direct report (Senior Performance Analyst).


  • Develop and implement a strategic roadmap for performance analysis methodologies in line with the strategy and goals.
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand their needs and challenges, and design, develop, and agree on the performance reporting framework for the fund, incorporating reference and target portfolios and appropriate benchmarks at fund, asset class, and sub-portfolio levels.
  • Create and articulate a clear vision for performance analysis across strategies, championing the adoption of new technologies and processes to enhance the analytical capabilities.
  • Lead and manage performance improvement projects and initiatives, providing actionable insights and recommendations to senior management to aid strategic decisions.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on performance and contribution calculations, attribution methodologies, and become a key contact for all stakeholder performance-related escalations.
  • Design new reports and dashboards, working closely with the Change and Investment Systems teams to ensure robust design of data structures, applications, and workflows.
  • Monitor and work closely with external risk and performance service providers to ensure timely and quality service delivery, including reviewing month-end formal reporting deliveries and timelines. Manage the team to resolve technical data discrepancies and performance data issues, and represent the risk and performance team on various cross-team project initiatives.
  • Keep abreast of industry best practices and methodologies, recommending updates to approaches where relevant. Proactively identify gaps in procedures, recognize areas of risk, and identify areas for improvement, promoting proper controls.


Knowledge and Experience


  • Ideally, 10+ years of experience in performance analysis and attribution at an investment management/owner/buy-side firm, aggregating performance across public and private asset classes.
  • A track record of managing and leading performance measurement leadership with a focus on driving strategic initiatives and change.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to provide actionable insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent knowledge of industry-standard performance measurement, contribution, and attribution methodologies applied to long-only, long/short, derivative overlay, and private asset portfolios.
  • Operational and accounting knowledge to assist in resolving technical data discrepancies and performance data issues.


Skills and Aptitudes


  • Technically excellent with depth of knowledge and understanding of performance reporting methodologies and their application.
  • Strong management, mentoring and coaching skills for developing and motivating team members.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proactive and problem-solving attitude, ability to take a broad perspective to identify solutions.
  • Excellent collaboration skills with the ability to build and foster strong working relationships with colleagues and engage with a range of stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, with a strong focus on accuracy, data integrity, and quality assurance.


Desirable


  • Knowledge of Python, SQL and/or Power BI.
  • Professional qualification such as CFA and/or CIPM
  • Experience with GIPS for Asset Owners.
  • Experience with the MSCI IPD/Real estate Analytics platform a plus
