Who we are

Dragonfly Advanced Materials is an advanced materials manufacturer specialising in the development and production of silica aerogels. It is a spin-out company from Newcastle University and holds patented technology that revolutionises the manufacturing process of silica aerogels.

Dragonfly is currently the sole manufacturer of silica aerogels in the UK. We have a clear vision to be a leading provider of advanced materials in the UK and across the world by enabling more companies in more sectors than ever previously imagined accessing the full potential of next generation silica aerogels, recognising the increasing demand for efficient and safer materials to support the drive towards NetZero.

NorthStar Ventures, Angel Investors and IUK recently backed the expansion of Dragonfly Advanced Materials by investing £935,000 to support its growth and expansion into new markets.

The role

You will make a significant contribution to ensuring sustainable and high value income streams across our product lines, as well as identifying and delivering new opportunities for income generation through commercial enterprise. You will work collaboratively with key personnel to innovate and develop credible business development plans, ensuring these effectively support our income strategy.

Key tasks

  1. Researching and identifying new business opportunities – including new markets, growth areas, trends, customers, partnerships, products and services.
  2. Develop a long term and sustainable income generation strategy with specific focus on commercial development, creating a revenue pipeline for achieving sales targets.
  3. Working with colleagues, develop detailed strategy for the development of income strategies based around the application of silica aerogel, focusing on key markets such as the contribution to the fight against climate change.
  4. Working with the Directors develop financial targets for income streams and growth which align with strategic priorities, ensuring these are ambitious while being achievable.
  5. Understanding the needs of customers and responding effectively to meet these.
  6. Developing relationships with key customers to drive direct and indirect sales.
  7. Understanding the technical and sustainability aspects to Dragonfly products for sales conversations.
  8. Developing a good understanding of products/capabilities and supply/value chain to advise customers.
