Senior Manager

Canning Town South, United Kingdom Greater London Authority (GLA) Full time
Contract type: One permanent and one fixed term (12 month) appointment
Grade: 13
Salary: £89,041pa
Reference Number: SMBS5255
Application process: shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview, interview to be held from w/c 12th August
Closing date: 23:59 on 30 July 2024
We are looking for an experienced leader to step into a challenging and rewarding role as a Senior Manager in the GLA’s Building Safety Unit.
Following the tragedy at Grenfell Tower in 2017, a building safety crisis has unfolded with many residential buildings found to be unsafe and residents facing unaffordable costs. Government has made funding available to address this crisis and the GLA is administering this funding in London. This priority programme is central to achieving the Mayor’s vision that all Londoners should benefit from a safe, good quality, affordable home.
The Senior Manager will be a strategic leader for the GLA’s delivery of government’s three multi-billion pound remediation programmes (Private Sector ACM Cladding Remediation Fund, Building Safety Fund and Social Sector ACM Cladding Remediation Fund). They will have management responsibility for a team of approximately twelve, including three direct reports. The programmes we work on are high-profile with significant ministerial interest, and successful delivery has a major impact on the lives of affected residents. This is an outward-facing role, and the Senior Manager will need to work very closely with officials at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) and Homes England as well as London partners including Local Authorities and London Fire Brigade.
Technical experience and qualifications in fire safety are not a requirement for this role. You will have experience of leading a complex project or programme, ideally on a high-value funding programme. You will be an experienced leader, with a demonstrable record of managing high performing teams successfully, with a focus on continuous improvement and with experience of taking action to improve diversity and inclusion outcomes.
Decisions around whether to fill future vacancies in this way will be made at the time, based on considerations including the urgency of filling the post and the GLA's commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion through its recruitment processes.
Staff at the GLA are working in our offices or visiting sites 2-3 days per week and GLA leaders need to be accessible and visible to their teams. A good balance of time spent working remotely, in the office together with colleagues and with partners across London is an important aspect of the role. We promote flexible approaches to working and try to ensure an inclusive and supportive environment that enables our staff to be successful. This may include reasonable adjustments or other flexibilities around working hours and locations.
We strive to ensure our workforce reflects the city we serve. We welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability. The GLA is also committed to increased diversity among its senior leadership, so we particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic candidates and candidates with disabilities who are currently underrepresented in our workforce.
How to apply
If you would like to apply for the role you will need to submit the following:
· Personal statement with a maximum of 1500 words. Please ensure you address how you demonstrate the four competencies set out below.
We want to understand how your skills and experience are relevant to this work, regardless of your professional background. So please submit a supporting statement (no more than 1,500 words) that uses specific examples to demonstrate how you meet each of the following competencies as set out in the job description and person specification.
Please note that your written application should address only these three competencies and that, should you be shortlisted, the other competencies may be addressed in the interview
· Managing and developing performance (level 3) - with a focus on inclusive leadership of a large and high performing team.
· Building and managing relationships (level 3) - setting out the skills and experience you have which would help you to lead relationships with external partners including DLUHC, Local Authorities, London Fire Brigade and Homes England in this role.
· Planning and organising (level 3) - outlining the previous experience you have managing the delivery of a complex programme
