Head of Compliance

Alexander Barnes has partnered with a rapidly expanding international e-money firm that is extending its operations into the UK and Europe.
Specialising in B2B and B2C payment solutions, this company is a leader in the financial services industry, offering a comprehensive suite of Electronic Money Institution (EMI) products, remittance services, and foreign exchange (FX) solutions.
As they prepare to obtain their UK EMI licence with the Financial Conduct Authority, they are seeking a Head of Compliance & MLRO to head up their compliance efforts in the UK and support their broader European ambitions.
In this strategic role, you will be responsible for:
- Designing and implementing a robust compliance framework that not only protects the business but also supports its ambitious expansion into the UK and Europe.
- Leading the process of obtaining the UK EMI licence with the FCA, ensuring all regulatory requirements are met and maintained throughout the application process.
- Conducting risk assessments, developing training programmes, and liaising with regulators to ensure the firm operates within legal boundaries, with a focus on both the UK and EU markets.
- Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to seamlessly integrate compliance considerations into every business decision, ensuring ethical growth and long-term success.
- Leading and inspiring a high-performing team of compliance professionals who are passionate about preventing financial crime and ensuring regulatory adherence.
You’re the ideal candidate if you have:
- Proven experience as a Head of Compliance/MLRO within the financial services payments industry, ideally with a background in e-money and cross-border transactions.
- In-depth knowledge of UK and European regulations, particularly in the context of a payments start-up or growing fintech, and experience dealing with the FCA.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and guide at all levels of the organisation.
- A passion for innovation and a desire to make a significant impact in the establishment and growth of a comprehensive financial crime department.
