Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities:
The Group Health and Safety Manager will advise Directors and Managers on all safety, health, and welfare matters to ensure the company complies with its statutory obligations. This senior management role involves devising and implementing new Safety cultures, management systems, strategies and strengthening communication channels while managing with a strategic approach, keeping the future development of both the Health and Safety Department and the business in mind. Key Responsibilities:nUnderstand and apply the Health and Safety at Work, etc. Act 1974 and other relevant legislation.nStay updated with changes in legislation and inform the Director of relevant updates.nAttend external courses/seminars for accurate interpretation and implementation of legislation.nPrepare and write method statements, risk assessments, COSHH assessments, and site visit reports.nEnsure all necessary assessments are conducted and reviewed at relevant intervals, maintaining records.nComplete yearly CHAS applications and maintain certification.nConduct fortnightly health and safety inspections at sites, advising on best practices and preparing reports.nContact the Director immediately for any situations requiring immediate rectification or stopping operations.nInvestigate accidents and near-miss incidents, recording findings and recommending improvements.nArrange health surveillance as instructed.nHighlight areas requiring training/certification to meet legislative standards.nReview the training matrix against business needs and ensure it is current.nRecommend control measures and advise on PPE standards.nPrepare and present H&S Management Reports to the Director.nEncourage and develop better awareness and understanding of H&S policies through education and communication.
Experience:nDetailed knowledge of health and safety within the UK construction industry.nExperience delivering projects to strict criteria and timescales.
Skills:nAbility to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders.nStrong negotiating and team-working skills with the ability to motivate and lead on-site personnel.nDemonstrable customer relationship and networking skills.nExcellent organisational skills and high attention to detail.nAbility to write clear and precise reports and communicate complex information simply.nExcellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications:nDegree level education or equivalent with excellent written and verbal communication skills.nNEBOSH Construction Certificate is required.nMembership of IOSH and the NEBOSH Diploma is essential.nA valid full clean UK driving licence is required for site travel.
