Salary: £32,000 to £40,000pa (inclusive of London Weighting £5,164), depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

Job Purpose

We have a vacancy for a Publicist within the communications team, primarily leading on Doctor Who as well as other drama projects, including EastEnders.

This is a fantastic role for a creative and enthusiastic comms professional with a passion for TV. The BBC commissions more drama than anyone else in the UK and has the widest remit within British drama broadcasting.

You'll be working in the communications team that oversees press and publicity for world-class content and leading on campaigns for iconic British brands such as Doctor Who and EastEnders.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

In this role you will provide a range of internal and external stakeholders with an authoritative source of advice on all aspects of press and publicity, to agreed standards of quality and cost, helping to create impactful 360-degree communications campaigns for proactively promoted programmes through their full public service lifecycle.

You will take full responsibility for the management of the campaigns, only referring up to provide information or when the issue is felt to have impact on the wider BBC.

Your key focus will be to constantly seek innovative ways to increase favourable media coverage and raise the profile of specific BBC titles in accordance with the marcomms strategy.

You will stimulate public interest in your drama titles by devising imaginative and innovative global campaigns, specifically tailored to the individual programme and audience. This will include writing clear concise copy, providing detailed information and comment on programmes, and acting as spokesperson to respond on behalf of your specialist area and on behalf of the BBC in general.

BBC Drama Publicists are expected to actively explore and pursue new and interesting avenues for communicating effectively and imaginatively with audiences, via traditional and emerging outlets and through social media. The successful candidate should actively take an interest in developments in social and cultural trends, and in broadcasting and related industries. They should actively share learning and insights across the division

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

The ideal candidate for this role will have a proven record of achievement in delivering publicity campaigns, alongside a good understanding of the media environment and the news gathering process. You will have a demonstrable passion for television drama and scripted content, on the BBC and across other broadcasters and streamers, both in the UK and globally.

You will have excellent news sense with the ability to write crisp, clear and lively press copy, which stimulates both press and public interest. With a proven creativity and the ability to think 'outside the box', together with a hunger to constantly try new ideas and approaches.

You will have advanced computer skills, with the ability to adapt to new IT systems quickly and the willingness to play an active role in helping achieve the strategic aims of the division.
